Glowing in the thin winter afternoon light, a barn sits dressed in red on Fugate Road.
: : :
This lovely red barn sits nestled against the foot of Kamiak Butte east of Colfax WA,
on Fugate Road, the wheat fields surrounding it sit fallow awaiting a farmer’s attention to receive seed for a new crop of wheat.
: : :
Kamiak Butte, is a Whitman County Park, rising nearly one thousand feet above the rich wheat fields of the Palouse.
Even the parking lot gives some excellent views of the farms and fields below,
but to get the best views one needs to hike to the summit.
: : :
Whenever I’ve visited the region,
I’m always too early in the season to access the trail head leading to the summit,
it has always been blocked by snow.
This year with such a mild winter, I am hopeful when I visit the Palouse over Spring Break
I’ll finally be able to hike the top and look down on the undulating richness of the Palouse and wide open skies.

I love old buildings, especially on farmland. It is easy to see this one is still in use. Great photo.

Glowing and dressed in red. And the sky is perfectly reflected in the roof. Beautiful!
What a beauty & I like how you included the tree in the shot, too! Plus, the falling snow in the background shot kinda adds something to this scene!
