Bang… Flash… New Year’s at the Space Needle… Before we get too far away from New Year’s I wanted to share a couple more shots of ‘New Year’s at the Needle.’ The alternating color balls along the vertical axis of the Needle were so unusual, and here in the smaller photo is another burst of red stars with white flashes. Blue star bursts can be viewed here, (the photo I posted on New Year’s Day.)
What about New’s Years resolutions? Have you made any? Do you ever make any? I generally don’t make resolutions. I endeavor to work on changes that are important to me throughout the year. Foremost among them are the effort to be healthier; eating wisely, and yes, some weight loss is part of that goal. Not thinness though, at this stage of my life admitting I’m not ever going to be pencil thin is rather freeing. I try to walk most days (Lucy likes that) visit more with my friends and family, and taking the time to study my Bible more.
De-cluttering, that is a project I’ve begun recently. Tossing out, giving away or selling items I no long use and will probably never use, but take up precious storage space in our home. One of those areas that I just de-cluttered were my kitchen cupboards. That chore unloaded two sets dinnerware and has left plenty of room for my set of plain white Corelle dinnerware in their stead.
Books, books seem to grow in my house. I love to read, I really would rather read than watch TV. I tend to keep books with the self-promise to re-read them to further glean important lessons needed in my life or to enjoy a wonderful story a second or third time. Lately, though I had to admit that I was keeping books that I probably would never read again so I took six boxes full to Half Price Books the other day. I received less than I would have liked, but someone else has to dust them now. And THAT feels good! :-)
The Space Needle is unique and with these lights it is even better!
It IS unique isn’t it??
great shots! i don’t really do resolutions either. i’m trying to be better at de-cluttering and i also have boxes of books i need to weed out. if i’ve already read it, and it was a book i really liked, i always save it for some reason. i know i won’t read it again, but i just can’t let it go lol….
I know, Tanya, I know… it is SO hard to let them go!
These are two fantastic photos! I don’t usually make resolutions either but, this year I did make a couple.
Hope you keep them and are satisfied with the results of your resolutions!
shared your photo via FB again. It’s just too good to not.
Good luck with the resolutions. :)
Oh, thank you, Nancy!
A stunning shot!!
No resolutions really, just things I want to work on. I am going to challenge myself to shoot in RAW and learn more and more settings for my camera. De-cluttering is always something I like to work on. It never ends, does it? Why is that?
Love this capture!
Happy 2012 :)
Thanks, Dennis!
Fabulous shots Madge, the top image is magic! To lose 5 kilos is one, too stop wasting money is another, we’ll see how that goes!!
Good luck, Grace!
Looks like it was a good show even if it was brief! I echo most of your resolutions and plan to keep making inroads against clutter. Eat (and grow) more vegetables! Keep walking the dog (he lobbies so we stay on track). Learn more features on my camera. But, oh, can I let go of books? Not so sure.
Thanks Kay… Love the eat/grow more veggies!
We’ve been to Portland Oregon and the Hood River area a few times, but never Seattle. That’s one place I’d like to visit.
Fireworks along the Needle?? Who who woulda thunk it?
Yup… this configuration was the most unusual I’ve seen in all the years I’ve been watching the displays there!
Such a fantastic photo. You must have had a prime spot for that! My resolutions for the new year are the same every year, none. I just try to expand my photographic eye everywhere I go, be happy and supported of the people I come in contact with. Just trying to do good and be good :) As for getting rid of the clutter, I work part-time for a storage facility and I see what people store and am amazed. Some people don’t even remember what they are storing and the things they throw out after paying to store them. Incredible and sad. Life is short–enjoy it and appreciate the things you already have. Good luck on the things you want to accomplish and take lots of photos which I know you already do :)
Thanks Bill… yes, I do try to take my camera with me as much as possible… ;-)
Very well thought out Madge. If you are at all interested, the Garden of Daisies Blog at http://patchofzinnias.blogspot.com/p/366-challenge.html is having a 366 Challenge. It is for getting rid of 366 things this year. I joined up. We all have so much clutter in our lives don’t we?
Yes, we sure do… just went over and signed up! Thanks, Michaele!
Love that red burst on the Needle! And I’m a book hoarder too, though when I down-sized homes 4-5 years ago I had no choice but to part with many, many of them.
Sometimes parting (with books) is sweet sorrow… but the space is grand! ;-)
Wonderful fireworks photos Madge! As far as resolution I usually don’t make them either. The only thing I want to continue working on is maintaining a good healthy lifestyle.
A good healthy lifestyle is a very worthy goal… keep up the good work! ;-)
These are spectacular shots! Wowza!
Thanks, Kathy… too bad I have to hang out SO long before I can start shooting!
Wonderful photos – thanks. De-cluttering is grand – I’ve been at it for some time now and I’m making some good progress.
Thanks JoAnn… sometimes I wonder why I wait so long to start something that feels SO good! ;-)
I don’t do resolutions either-but there is much I need to work on : ) I have been decluttering my house for the last several months-and it feels so good : )
It is SO freeing to have less to care for…
great shot!
Thanks, James!
What wonderful photos of the space needle! I’ve seen it plenty of times, but never with fireworks exploding over the top of it. I’m going to enjoy looking back at some of your other photos too. I used to live in Renton/Kent and still have family in the greater Sea/Tac area.
So glad you are joining me for the 366 challenge! It sounds like you are already well on your way to meeting that decluttering/clearing out/donating goal! Way to go!!
Thanks for stopping by… you’ll find a lot here on my blog that you’ll recognize and hopefully enjoy! Thanks too for putting together the de-cluttering challenge! Love it, it is so freeing…
