The eggplant, colorful, nutritious and odd.
: : :
In English gardens,
the purple variety called ‘Aubergine,’
is commonly known as
the ‘garden egg.’
: : :
Here,
we have the small round, green,
golf-ball sized Asian variety that is called
Thai eggplant.
: : :
Taking my camera into Uwajimaya,
a large, well known local Asian grocery store,
I had a good time for a little while taking shots of all the fruits and vegetables
until I was told I had to have a permit from
the management to take photos.
So I stopped,
but already had some wonderful images.
: : :
The few times I’ve tried to cook with eggplant,
the results have been less than pleasing.
Do you have a secret to share
about how to cook them
successfully??
: : :
I had a bit of a health scare these past few days,
but tests yesterday
showed
all is well.

So glad to hear about your doctor visit Madge… was worried about you! Thanks for hosting. xo
I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had eggplant. It’s just never been commonly used in my family. Odd that you needed a permit to take photos rather than just simple permission. Glad to hear your test results were good and I hope you had a great Christmas!
lol, some of them looks a little like the new kinds of tomatoes you sometimes see in the shop. Lovethe green color. :)
Happy New Year to you and your family.
Whoa! They are all new to me! Never seen those before. Love the gorgeous green. I’m off to google this now :)
I’ve never seen eggplant like this before! Love the repetition of the patterns in your shot.
Hope y’all had a wonderful Christmas, Madge!
I’ve never had eggplant, and I’m not much of a cook. So, if your looking for recipes, you’re barking up the wrong tree. :)
Sorry to hear about your recent health scare, but happy that nothing was seriously wrong.
So happy to hear your doing ok.. I have never cooked this veggie .. I would have to look it up.
I really dont like it when Im told to leave my tripod at the door if I take it or no photos… and it happens.
They sure look yummy to me Madge! Wishing you a very happy New Year:-)
Not that familiar with eggplant, but am glad you featured them. Also good news ref your health♪ Here’s to a happy, healthy 2014!
Madge, we use the purple ones and in the summer when we get bushels of them, we slice them using the Pres mandarin slicer, soak them in salt water, then dip them in bread crumbs and finally egg before frying them gently in olive oil until golden brown. Then after absorbing the oil via paper towels, we place them in zip-locks and freeze so they are ready for me to make eggplant parm…YUM! I never knew of these green ones!!!!…:)JP
Nice photo! Glad to hear your health is okay. Not fun to have a scare I’m sure! Here’s to a great New Year!
Luscious colors, textures and composition ~ thanks, carol, xxx
Egg plant ans aubergiene cooked well are delicious. Hope you had a good Christmas.
Madge,
Hope you continue to feel good and you can figure out what is going on with your health. Will keep you in prayer.
As for eggplant. When I was in high school someone gave Mom a few purple egg plants and instructions on how to cook it. It was a one and only once food at our house.
I am not wild about eggplant but these have some great color.
Hi! Wishing you a Happy New Year.
Lovely with their patterns…
I’ve never seen such green eggs (aubergines I know, but cooke I can’t with good results)
Thanks for hosting and happy New Year
Glad to hear all is well! Do love Thai aubergines… Can’t them in a green curry! At first glance I thought they were sprouts! :)
I’m glad your tests results were fine, Madge. Praise the Lord for that! I’ve never seen Asian eggplant. Love the bright green color. Like JP’s instructions above, that’s how I’ve successfully made eggplant. Enjoy your Sunday. Hugs ~ Nancy
Very sorry to hear about your health scare! I have never tried to cook with eggplant – and can’t think of a time when I have eaten it. I didn’t realize that there was such a small size – but I guess there are different varieties.
Thank you for hosting!
