‘I’ll be home for Christmas,
You can Count on me.
Please have snow
and mistletoe and presents on the tree.
Christmas eve will find me where the love light gleams.
I’ll be home for Christmas,
if only in my dreams.’

‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas,’
is one of the most beloved songs sung at this time of year,
written by Kim Gannon and Walter Ken.
First recorded by Bing Crosby on October 4, 1943,
during the height of World War II.
It was released as a single 78 rpm record and soon shot to the top of the charts,
loved by both soldiers overseas
and their families
back home.

This shot of a decorated,
old fashioned steel-truss bridge in the small western Washington town of Sumner,
reminded me of that song,
as families cross it to shop, to celebrate,
to go home for Christmas.

Rurality Blog Hop
will not be open this week,
as my family and I celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
on Christmas Eve and
Christmas Day.

A Christmas blessing:
May you have…
‘Walls for the wind
And a roof for the rain,
And drinks bedside the fire,
Laughter to cheer you,
And those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire.’

Merry Christmas.

I love that song, Madge. Have a Merry Christmas!
It’s like a movie… there should be someone standing in the middle of the road asking for a Christmas miracle.. Just an awesome photo!!
Madge
You and your family have a merry christmas as well.
How cool. I do not think I have ever seen one of these decorated with lights before. Merry Christmas.
A magnificent photo! And it goes perfectly with the song…just drive over that bridge and go home for Christmas. Hope you and yours are doing well. Have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for a great New Year. I hope it brings you joy, peace, prosperity, and, most importantly, good health!
Someone certainly worked hard decorating that bridge wit all those lights. And your photo of it is terrific. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Madge.
Alot of work but it is so worth it.
Love the song…and the lights on the bridge.
Merry Christmas and Blessings to you, Miss Madge!
I love the lights. They bring back fond memories of when I was a little girl. My parents are gone now but my heart will always remember those special times when love was unconditional and life was simple. Merry Christmas to all of you and a healthy and happy new Year to come.
Beautiful, Madge! A very Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones and many Christmas blessings, too! Hugs xo Karen

A fine reminder for this song’s beginning. Excellent sentiment and a bridge that fit the subject very well. Merry Christmas eve. May the eve be a blessing and good preparation for Christmas day.
