Brightly planted pots and boxes adorn the front porch of a houseboat. Whether we live in the city, in the country, in a house, in an apartment or a houseboat we all want to surround ourselves with gardens and plants. Somehow we all seem to have a need for being connected to the ground. Here on a Lake Union houseboat, the homeowner has planted a climbing vine, a planter box and a pot of daisies.
If I had a chance to, I’d jump at the opportunity to live in a houseboat, especially on Lake Union just north of downtown Seattle. Generally they are quite small, under a 1,000 square feet, but I could fit my essentials into that quite nicely… the whole idea really floats my boat (oh yes, pun intended.)!
My husband is feeling a little better and will be seeing his doctor soon. Lucy bounced back and is her usual perky, playful self, thank you to those of you who asked.

This is beautiful, Madge. All the colors . . .
I love these colorful boats you’ve posted in the past and also this one.
If I had a houseboat, I would absolutely use lots of bright colors. Very pretty.
I’m with you Madge, if one wanted to live in Seattle, a houseboat on Lake Union is just the ticket!
i would not like to live on a houseboat. love those grasses planted there. :)
Quite lovely. I really love all of the colors.
The need to grow things is in us all! Love the bright daisies!! :)
I’m glad your hubby is feeling a little better.
I love that houseboat idea…especially with the floating gardens!
Whenever I watch “House Hunters’ on HGTV I just love the episodes where they are searching for a houseboat. I could do that…and the small space would not bother me one bit…and I definitely would have a ‘garden’ as you photographed here.
Oh! I love it! Like the above poster Danielle, I’ve saw episodes on HGTV’s House Hunters, where the buyer is looking at house boats around Seattle and I’ve been completely taken with them.
