Live not only in ‘The Center of the Universe,’ live in the ‘Epicenter!’ The eclectic and sometimes eccentric Fremont residents began proclaiming their neighborhood of north Seattle, the ‘Center of the Universe,’ in the 1970s. Then in 1994 these apartments (The Epicenter Apartments) were built above the PCC (Puget Sound Consumer’s Coop, a local grocery store chain) with this huge and striking artwork on the corner of the building. The sixty-five foot tall stainless steel artwork by Mark Steven’s is called ‘Monsruang’ – Thai for ‘Jewelry from Heaven.’ Besides the 128 apartments above and the grocery stove below, the street level also houses a couple boutiques, ice cream shop, a coffee shop and sushi restaurant. Although I find PCC an expensive (they are organic) grocery to shop in I do love walking through occasionally and looking around. Their deli items are always delicious!
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

i like that artwork…if i were to live in those apartments i would pick one in the shiny artwork….interesting apartment building!
That’s a beautiful building and it’s so interesting. Or maybe it’s your shot that makes it so!
I’m rather intrigued by the “back-in” parking.
What a building- truly amazing- I would love to live in or near that one. An organic co-op too- sounds like my kind of place! Great photo Madge.

Oh now that’s just too cool. Who thinks up things like this? Love them, that’s for sure!
A riot of colors. Beautifully captured!
The artwork strikes me as more eccentric than eclectic!
ouch! a little too garish for my tastes!
Wow now that is a unique building right there. Can’t imagine coming home to that each day.
That is certainly a unique place. It would be bearable to live in apartment like that,I think.
It looks a bit too gaudy (or gaudi-esque), but sometimes it is not a bad thing to have something playful looking around.
Very unusual. Cool capture Madge!
WOW- loving the vibrant colors!
These look great!
Only in Fremont, I would say! That is too cool! I think I would have to decorate with purple and stainless steel if I had an apt. there! And drive a purple car!
Fascinating … reminds me of some of the new architecture being built around The High Line
Wow — quite a departure from what I’m used to seeing in your area via your photos. Pretty cool.
I love the way some of the balconies are “tilted.” Great effect!
that´s a weird one. :)
What a building! Great photo!
What a great shot with the beautiful building…the vehicles all lined up and that color…wow! That’s what I love about the PNW…it’s different. I don’t know how to explain it but it really is. People are more ‘earthy’ for lack of a better word. My children all live in BC and that’s where they were born and raised (except the oldest) and they are all very outdoorsy laid back and for lack of another better word…hippyish. Is that a word LOL? It’s always a fun time up there and we’ll be in BC this July. Thanks again for more fun memories.
