Interesting that something as staid as a hardware store would have multiple instances of whimsical artwork by Seattle artist Ryan Henry Ward. Henry’s happy and colorful artwork can be seen across town in many locations, inside and outside businesses and residences. I’ve found close to 40 of his works and photographed them… I am still adding to my collection once in a while when I spot another piece. Unfortunately, one cannot always have the type of shoot that yields a perfect shot… so here’s one piece that I like of his artwork on Stoneway Hardware’s delivery truck in their storage yard in Ballard (a neighborhood of northwest Seattle). No matter my walking about, there was no better shot regardless of point of view. There it is, a less than ideal situation shooting through a cyclone fence. You can see just a bit more of his work at Stoneway Hardware on the building behind the truck. In another post a few months ago, you can see a mural on the side of the Sloop Tavern, also in Ballard.
My daughter, Amanda Anderson owner of ‘Scream Colors,’ (custom photography, graphic and web design) created a website for Henry (www.ryanhenryward.com) to feature his whimsy filled art on the web.
Standing in front of a mural painted on a garage in Ballard, Henry poses in a black top hat. My daughter gave me a Henry original painting for Christmas this year, it is of a school bus (what else? :-)) that he painted for me personally. I’ll share it with you one of these days…
Sharing with ‘Friday Fences,’ and ‘Photo Friday,’ and ‘Foto Friday.’
It’s not the type of business that determines if it is staid… it’s the business owner. You might think the fence takes away from your photo. It doesn’t. It actually adds to it by taking the blandness out of it. Without the fence it would have been just like anyone else’s photos. This way it’s yours and not dependent on other people’s ideas.
his work brightens things up!
oh, i love his art … so fun & entertaining. (:
I like the fence in front of your shot — just do. :) Very cool that the hardware store is funky and fun to visit.

So bright and so different! My boys when they were young, would have loved going to that hardware store with Dad! That would be a great place to take a family photo! Love the composition of the fence in the foreground.
Henry definitely has the right attitude! Hang onto that original. :)
