It’s a sticky situation we’ve got here at Seattle’s Bubble Gum Alley. The red brick walls flanking the Post Alley entrance to the Market Theater in Pike Place Market, is called by locals, ‘Bubble Gum Alley.’ Theater patrons and Market visitors have been sticking used chewing gum to the walls as they have either waited for entrance into the venue or viewed the site. Early on, it is said that the theater employees cleaned the gum off the walls several times, but patrons and visitors continued their practice and eventually it was left to grow. And grow it has, considered a tourist attraction since 1999, it was voted one of the top five ‘germiest tourist attractions,’ in 2009. Here you can see but a very small portion of the gum wall around a window sill. I have only visited it in cool weather, and even in the absence of heat, the smell of all of that gum is quite well you know…odorous, I think in warm weather you would have to hold your breath to get a close up!

that is hilarious!
this is pretty freaky to me… and i would not want to get close enough to put my gum on it. YUCKY i think and proof Only IN America is a true saying
I hear ya!
I can’t believe I missed this the few times I was in Seattle! I had no idea it was so close to Pike Place Market. Darn it!
Next time??
If enough people see this it could become contagious and catch on else where.
There’s one in San Luis Obispo …
I have never seen anything like this! I like it but….
Yeah… I know…
How interesting. The things people do. It’s humorous! Great photo!
It is much larger than the shot I showed here…
Ugh! Good photo, but …gross!
Pretty gross… I agree!
How do you say gross and cool all in one sentence?
‘Cross’ or ‘Groll’??
I’ve read about this. I would have to say it’s something I would want to see when I get the chance to visit.
It is worth seeing…
That is so smarmy! Yuk! I admire your courage in getting close enough to get a photo!
Close is relative depending upon the lens of choice!! Lol!
Jeez, that’s disgusting.
Ah… yeah…
Ewwww!
Uh.. huh…
It does gross me out.. but at the same time i think it is great.. at least in pictures.. I have yet to visit it in person. I know there is a geo cache hidden in that wall… I am afraid it may take poking of some of the gum and that just makes me ill though so I may have to go with out that cache… maybe hubby will look for it.. with gloves on
Hadn’t heard about the cache… I’ll have to check that out… gloves, good idea!
What a find!!
Yup!
definitely different, really gross, but worth stopping by and taking a photo :)
Yes a photo using a long lens… lol!
Ok, I wouldn’t want to touch it or smell it, but that is pretty cool! Love your piccture!
