Bright… Cheery… Iconic… Space Needle…
What could be more iconic than two iconic symbols displayed together? The Seattle Space Needle is decorated annually by a crew of men wearing safety tethers while they attach cables that will hold the white lights in place and in the shape of a tree. I cannot imagine working atop the Space Needle, at 605 feet, simply the thought of doing that makes my stomach lurch. The work is finished by Thanksgiving day, and then it is illuminated in the early evening the day after Thanksgiving in a ceremony that includes the tree lighting at Westlake Mall in downtown. Last night, thousands were on hand to see the Christmas season kicked off. The tree will spread its glorious light for Seattleites to enjoy between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Come New Year’s Eve, with the tree still lit, the Space Needle becomes the foundation for a spectacular fireworks show at the stroke of midnight. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Beautiful shot Madge. Love the skies.
Thanks, Luis… the sky was spectacular!
Great shot. I tried so hard to find Kerry Park on Queen Anne (where I assume this was taken from?) but was unsuccessful. This is a beautiful pic.
Yes, shot from Kerry Park, it is on Queen Anne Hill about half way up to the west…
beautiful night shot. i have never been there but recognized it from the movies.
Thanks! ;-)
Gorgeous skyline shot! You found a perfect vantage point.
Thanks, Sharon… The flat area where the Seattle Center (and the Space Needle) were built used to be a hill as high as Queen Anne. The removal was accomplished over several decades in the early 20th century… so now Queen Anne is a high point in the area for great photo ops!
Just breathtaking, Madge. A real postcard moment. *sigh*
Thanks, Nancy…
Great picture. We have nothing quite as stunning as that skyline but it’s starting to get that Christmassy feel, despite very mild weather.
Christmas is in the heart, right?? Thanks, John!
Great picture Madge – the Space Needle is so photogenic at any time of year, and even better at night with a tree.
Thanks, Paul… I agree, the Space Needle is always good for a photo op! :-)
Awesome shot. I love the smoke billowing from the buildings also.
Yes, that steam streaming up from the tops of buildings does add some drama! Thanks, Michaele!
That is wonderful! I had no idea they did that. I really want to visit this Spring.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! Spectacular shot, Madge!
Quite a dynamic shot.
A magical photo of the skyline by night with a pinch of mystery….
Wonderful photo!
