Moon Snail… Purple… Spiral… Fragment…
A recent chilly walk on the beach on Key Peninsula near Glencove, I looked for shells. Who doesn’t look for shells every time they get a chance to walk on the beach? Sadly, on this walk I didn’t find many shells, but I did find several fragments of Moon Snail shells. I enjoy finding an intact snail shell or even the odd occasion when you find a live snail, to watch them plow into the beach sand. Some Europeans and Scandinavians do eat the large mollusks eagerly, I’m not sure I would, they are huge! The shells are as big or bigger than your fist, and speaking of size they are a formidable beach predator, drilling into and eating other mollusks they encounter sub-tidally on the beaches of Puget Sound. Wishing today could be a leisurely walk on the beach, sun on my back, wind in my face and shells galore!
so beautiful
Thanks! ;-)
Your post led me to find out more about these snails Madge, thanks!
I love discovering new things Paul, sounds like you do too!
Beautiful shell. I love looking for shells too when I’m near a beach. Beautiful photo!!!!
I’ll bet not many people walk along looking down at least part of the time to see what’s there to pick up and enjoy!
A beautiful spiral!
Thanks, Peter…
Nice! I found a snail shell last week. Certainly not the size of my fist, though. Now you have me curious about it.
You should be finding them along the beaches there too… they are really spectacular when you find either a whole shell or a live one!
What a lovely close up.
Thanks, Randy!
I didn’t know that about them. I liked your title—made me think. Beautiful photo.
Thanks Beth… I hope always when I’m spiraling that I hang onto the anchor of my soul, Jesus! :-)
I love shells and this one is gorgeous!
I thought so too, some times they have a lot more purple on them… ;-)

Thanks… God makes such beauty for us to enjoy!
