Sitting in dry dock on the north bank of the Wishkah River in Hoquiam is the tug, Chehalis. Just beside her hull, moored on the river, and still afloat is another tug, she is a very small one, but brightly painted and her wheelhouse looks like a one-man affair.
I believe this facility is the former Smith Grant-Porter Shipyard, it looks in a state of disrepair and it was quite difficult to tell how much business is being conducted there these days. Makes one wonder beyond the difficulties of our economy these last few years, what may have befallen this company that probably served the maritime repair needs of this coastal community on Grays Harbor for many years.
Great colour and a real tight composition. I like it!
Thanks John… I was drawn to this… love the water and boats, the colors just grabbed me!
Love the colors on that tug, Madge. Mirrors the colors of the ship that is in dry dock.
I think they must be owned by the same company… green and orange, company colors??
That blue fishboat is a looker also!
I agree, Paul! ;-)
Hi, thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. This is a great picture, I love the bright colours.
Thanks, Ellie for coming by to see the view from right here (pun intended!) lol!
I really find this photo interesting…I have got to explore your sight more!
Thanks Rose.. enjoy your visit!
Love this shot. The colours are so vibrant and I reall like the reflection in the water.
Thanks Leanne, those colors were really bright, they drew me immediately!
Wow you sure can’t miss this. Great shot.
You’re right, Randy, it was hard to miss… lol!
What a cute little tugboat. Love the colors. :)
Thanks, Nancy! ;-)
What a contrast in size! Awesome colours and very eye-catching shot.
Thanks, JM, she really caught my eye…
This is a fabulous image… there’s so much to like about it… the lines, shapes, colors, the reflection, not to mention the subject, this adorable little tugboat next to a larger one… almost a mother and child image and who isn’t moved by that?
Thanks, Francisca… it is a cute little tug, I think it’s the smallest I’ve ever seen… really, I don’t think more on one person could fit in the wheelhouse.
Thanks for stopping by. I just missed an opportunity to get acquainted with a couple who worked with a Cruise Ship in your area. Not sure what the set up was,but I think they may have dissolved partnership by now. I’ll never see that part of the country, so it’s great to view it through the blogs of others. Thanks for sharing your part of the world.
Visiting other places and seeing it through the eyes of a local allows us (me too!) to visualize other locales we may never see otherwise… thank you for visiting my corner of the world!
Madge, this is a fabulous photo but, for some reason, makes me think of the children’s song…I’m a little teapot, short and stout -grin-! Little things do mighty things.
Lol… or maybe ‘I’m the little tug who could??’ ;-)
Wonderful shot, Madge! Great composition and great subject. The maritime industries are terribly hard hit and it’s heartbreaking. They’re auctioning beautiful old working boats out here on the Olympic Peninsula because people can’t keep them. They’re an important part of our heritage and it’s such a loss.
It is sad… we’ve lost so much with the decline of our logging industry, I hope there isn’t that save demise to smaller and local marine business too.
