Big Changes 2021

Hello everyone! For over a decade, my mom, Madge, has brought you little snippets of the Pacific Northwest through her photographs of daily adventures, long drives, and quick stops… Not too long ago, she expressed that she’d become a little burnt out, but didn’t want to see all her work disappear from the world (and from you!). We discussed the thought of me, her daughter, taking over the site and I excitedly grabbed at the opportunity to keep on keepin’-on with this site and stories. You’ll see some changes here and there as the main focus of this website morphs into more of a business center than merely story-telling… Have no fear though! I’m excited to share my adventures with you as I explore the world with my own lens and will update the blog on a regular basis much as my mom did.

If you’d like to keep up with her, she’s still posting on her Instagram account!

Above are a few snapshots from the other side of the photos you’ve become accustomed to seeing… For as long as I can remember, mom has had a camera nearby… Everything from a little quickshot camera tucked in the center console of her car to several (heavy!) pounds of gear she’d tote around the Palouse. I followed in her footsteps easily, and can remember several special moments over the years where she gifted me camera equipment to fuel my photography fire.

One of my earliest camera memories was going to the Pike Place Market with her old Ricoh film camera to learn how to shoot… I honestly can’t remember how old I was, but I remember feeling like a superhero with the heavy, cool weight of that camera bouncing against my ribs as we wandered the endless halls at the Market. I think the only photo that turned out was of a misplaced red bell pepper in a cascading sea of other vegetables… I was so proud!

Since then, my work has grown and morphed into a force to be reckoned with with several pieces published in local papers, calendars, and plastered across the walls of homes and businesses alike. I’ve posed kids and teachers during a brief stint as a school yearbook photographer, traveled all over the state as a pet portrait photographer for The Picture People, did freelance photo work for local events, shot weddings, pet portraits, and much more while I ran my own business for several years. Unfortunately in 2011 (and again in 2015) I had major drive crashes and lost the majority of my work…

It’s taken a long time to find the passion for it again after such a major heartbreak, but the embers in my soul for photography never got cold and I find myself with that burning itch to get back to it after the recent addition of some new toys.

I hope you’ll follow along as I explore the world and continue to share The View From Right Here.
