Rain,
that’s been the weather ‘du jour’
for the past six days.

It is hard to believe just seven days ago
I was out in east Lewis County WA in the brilliant sunshine,
taking hundred of photos in along various country roads
that wind and weave across the narrow valleys
between the verdant tree covered hills.
I call east Lewis County
the ‘Land of the Dead End Road.’
I’ve traveled many thousand of miles around rural Washington state.
Never encountering an area so replete with dead ends as east Lewis County.
East Lewis County is home to thousands upon thousands of acres of steep forested hills
nestled up against the Cascade Mountain range,
some owned by the various timber companies like Weyerhaeuser
and huge swaths of National Forest Lands in the
Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Privately held lands are hopscotched
between these large areas of leased, owned and national lands,
so the majority of back roads only travel short distances,
most times only a mile or less before you come across the inevitable sign
‘County Road Ends in 500 Feet.’

Here though, I was traveling
one of the three major state routes through our area.
Along Highway 12,
also known as White Pass,
I came across this winsome weathered barn,
lying comfortably among some golden maple trees
at the foot of a hill covered in Douglas Fir trees, with just the tip
of majestic Mount Rainier soaring above and behind.
This day Mount Rainier was sporting
its quite common layer of saucer-shaped lenticular clouds.

I’ve lived within view of Mount Rainier my whole life.
One weather saying here locally among native Washingtonians
is if Mount Rainier is wearing a cap of clouds,
it will rain within three days.
Often that proves true.

One last bit about the rain.
We installed a Lacrosse home weather station a few weeks ago,
because weather reporting for our very local area,
by the major news stations is vague at best.
Our home station has recorded 6.02 inches
of rainfall in the last six days,
just a tad bit wet.

Blessings Always,
It is a beautiful fall photo of the barn image and the season. I hope that you have a wonderful November.
What a beautiful scene! The mountain backdrop for that barn just is so perfect.
That is one of the most gorgeous scenes!!!
Are you still making watercolor bookmarks?
I used to be good about visiting my blog list…I’m trying to figure out how my life has changed so that I don’t do it anymore! Your image is such a wonderful view of the PNW….especially people lucky enough to see magnificent mountains. (My current blog post is about my recent drive into the Blue Mountains.)
