Vibrant : vi·brant : viˈvībrənt : [adjective] : (of color) bright and striking.
Vibrant,
was the word of the day
when I saw this farm field under
the broad shaded canopy of maple trees.
We, my husband and I,
a week ago drove up to Windy Ridge
on the northeast flank of Mount Saint Helens
to see the fall colors and view the mountain
which is now just a little over 30 miles from our new home
in the small logging town of Morton WA,
nestled in a narrow valley in the brilliant green fir covered foothills
of the Cascade Mountain range in southwestern
Washington State.
: : :
It has been a whirlwind these past six months,
buying and moving to our new home,
prepping and selling our
Seattle home.
I made a trip up to Seattle last week
to retrieve my medical records (for naught, but that’s another story.. lol),
running a number of errands including a short visit with my son,
leaving town about 3:45pm.
I cannot tell you how refreshing it was
to finally run out of traffic jams as I approached Eatonville
about 30 miles from home.
While the influx of new residents
is super for the economy of the Puget Sound region,
it has also clogged highways,
and sky-rocketed home prices for those
wishing to purchase a home.
: : :
But,
back to Windy Ridge and Mount Saint Helens.
The fall colors were at their height of vibrance, the air was crisp
and a down vest made a cozy piece of attire!
At the top of Windy Ridge,we could see four volcanoes,
the top of Mount Rainier to the north, Mount Adams to the east,
Mount Saint Helens right in front of us and Mount Hood
across the Columbia River in Oregon probably several hundred miles away as the crow flies.
I’ll be posting some mount images over
the next few days.

Wear a vest,
wear a sweater and cap,
boots, gloves as needed and
get out there and enjoy the fall gorgeousness while you can!
Come home to a hot cup of tea!
Hugs!
~Blessings Always~
I just love the colors of fall! One day yellow is my favorite…then next it’s orange…and then it’s red!
Yes, I agree! How many favorite colors can one have? Lol…
Beautiful! I miss living in WA but the traffic…..omg it was horrid when I left in 2011. My friend still works where I did, in Fircrest, and she lives in Enumclaw. She said it’s a nightmare. I’d move back in a heartbeat but only to the Olympic Peninsula. I cannot deal w/ the Puget Sound area anymore.
I am with you JoJo, I do NOT miss the congestion of life in Seattle, it is refreshing to live in a place where life unfolds much more gently.
Great picture. I like your advice to dress warm, but get out and enjoy the beauty.
Yes, good advice.. we are expecting our first snowfall tomorrow, or perhaps over the weekend, if the snow level drops to 1000 feet. Can’t wait!
The colors of fall have been truly wonderful this year, Madge. It’s nice for the killing frosts to come after the foliage has turned, instead of before. We have two old big leaf maple trees and my husband has raked four different times, stuffing huge bags with the leaves. Today, the second tree is dropping its yellow leaves like crazy after the 23 degree temperature this morning. I love how the trees in your photo angle so close to the ground.
Wow! You are at a higher elevation than us at 1000 feet, but we were down just below freezing this morning as well. They are calling for snowfall perhaps as low as 500 feet, so we might get a skiff, ground is warm though, it won’t stick.
Absolutely glorious. I am surprised by the amount of color this year. I expected after the dry summer we’d have just dead leaves dropping but it has been stunning – as your photo shows. How nice that you are now settling into your new home – away from the traffic jams and congestion. Enjoy!! We are expecting a bit of snow up here in Bellingham – a bit too early I think. But it won’t last.
