Guard·rail : ɡärdrāl : [noun] : a strong fence at the side of a road or in the middle of an expressway, intended to reduce the risk of serious accidents.

Here,
along State Route 260
in southeastern Washington,
a crumbling ribbon of blacktop,
no longer protected from a falling down old wooden post and cable guardrail,
slopes down towards what once was a tiny town called Estes.
All that exists of Estes these days
are two abandoned large wooden grain elevators
an old railroad grade,
and
a coulee full of scrub grass
and sagebrush.

Looks like the wooden guard rail did its job and now is a part of the scenery. I like the faded posts, it adds character.
I like the old weathered posts. Have a HAPPY EASTER.
Awesome shot Madge. This is obviously in the “dessert” portion of our fair state. Loved it.
thanks for linking in, madge! i like the textures in this shot. hope you are doing well, too.
Great shot – such a view!
Madge, I like the textures you captured. The differences between the wood posts, old brush, sage brush and old grass is neat.
Like Robyn…the textures are fabulous!
Hi Madge! I MUST get a map and find these wonderful SE Washington locations you photograph! I hope to visit this summer. This is a great image of the past.
