Here,
a few weeks ago
while camping in Hoodsport
along beautiful Hoods Canal in southeastern Puget Sound,
we drove into the old lumber mill town of Shelton.
Along side Highway 3 south of town,
stands this rusting, old motel sign.
At one time it had been lit with neon,
a bit of tubing still hanging above the peeling paint
and rusting metal, and a few feet of crumbling concrete foundation.
These small motels were common every where 40 years ago,
but most have fallen on hard times
and vanished into local history
along with their buildings,
patronage and
signage.

Nice find. I love these rusty old signs!
A diamond in the rough. :)
You have this great talent for finding the art is something as nondescript as a rusty motel sign! (I have a sister-in-law in Shelton…will have to show her your blog post!)
great old sign!
Old Motel signs can be found all across the Midwest. It was all about car culture, but many of them are now gone. It is one consequence of super highway construction. Great photo.
