Cou·lee : ko͞olē : [noun] : a deep ravine carved by receding glaciers in a lava flow.
: : :
There are many coulees in central Washington state,
Grand Coulee, Moses Coulee, Frenchman Coulee, Foster Coulee, Horse Lake Coulee,
and Washtucna Coulee to name a few.
In summer the coulees are extremely hot and dry,
with only 3-6 inches of annual average rainfall.
: : :
But here we see a canyon wall of Grand Coulee near Coulee City
that is covered in green sagebrush, white Lupine and yellow Balsamroot,
with the odd willow here and there at the edge of the Columbia River
(here known as Banks Lake, part of the reservoir system down river from Grand Coulee Dam).
: : :
The greens of spring and the wild flowers are such a delight to the eye,
knowing summer is just around the corner
and they will wither in the blistering heat,
gone for another year.

Thanks for the vocab drill: coulee.
Madge,
I am such a novice photographer, but occasionally I have something to share.
Your state is gorgeous!
Thank you for the opportunity.
Jemma
I love the photo – that is one of our favorite areas of the state – although I must say – we have many favorites. I’m happy to see this meme back, I’ve missed it. Thanks for hosting.
Hi, very good to see the meme back again :)
Coulee… nice word. In polish it will be “WĄWÓZ”. Good luck ;))
Lovely…and interesting!
Wow. I had no idea that coulee was a noun. I thought it was a proper name! What a lovely shot for the return of your awesome meme!!
Hi! Nice spring season! YOur photo is very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful, Madge! Love those greens.
Looks like a beautiful place.
An awesome sight- I’d love to see one- I’ve heard that word, but never knew exactly what it was.
Don’t you just love what Mother Nature does with textures?…:)JP
I really enjoy reading on this site, it contains wonderful articles. “A short saying oft contains much wisdom.” by Sophocles.
Hi Madge,
I saw a comment you made on Robyn’s blog that you were from Seattle. Came to check out your blog and saw grand coulée! Very cool! I live in Ritzville. In the midst of the channeled scablands.
