In some places,

our fellow Americans are still in the grip of ice,

snow and cold.

:  :  :

Here in the northwest,

we’ve had high temperatures well above normal,

flowering trees, bulbs and shrubs are already gracing our gardens

and woods with pops of pink,

yellow and white.

Here,

a mat of burnt sienna colored broad leaf maple leaves lie

where they fell last autumn on top of a deep,

thick, rich green of a carpet of moss.

:  :  :

The downside

to an early spring is tree pollen,

and lots of it, filling the air with troubles for those

with allergies and asthma.

Get out your kleenex, Seattle!

  1. Scary, although I’d rather have the warmer instead of the colder! I just know that prolonged change is going to lead to real change, the kind we probably won’t like. Moss is not a common sight in the drier clime of NE Oregon, but those leftover leaves are quite familiar. My husband had surgery when it was leaf-raking time, so it was my task last fall. There are places I missed!
