The Christmas season
has become a burden over the years,
not a joy.

The push of advertising, shopping,
baking and decorating has become a chore and not a blessing.

When we see all of these tv ads,
print ads, facebook posts, pinterest boards,
they all show the perfection of doing Christmas ‘right.’
But seeking after things always sucks the contentment and joy out of us.

My husband and I are ‘skipping’ Christmas for the most part this year,
to regain our footing physically and spiritually.
So that next Christmas season,
our preparations will again be done with a joyous heart
and full of expectation that we will remember
the most gracious gift of all and that being our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.
That’s it, He IS it.
He is Christmas.

Celebrating Jesus takes preeminence over all else
and that is what I want to regain
in the respite we have carved our for
ourselves this year.

Thank you. Christmas, as it is presented, places an incredible burden on so many of us. A burden that is simply beyond too many.
