Fog·gy : ˈfôgē : [adjective]: a thick cloud of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere at or near the earth’s surface that obscures or restricts visibility.

Fog
is a typical occurrence around western Washington in the cold,
wet winter months.
In fact is is an almost a daily occurrence if it isn’t raining,
which it does a lot too.
Then we have those odd days when we have
some bright sunshine.
: : :
Most people think it rains here all the time.
In fact, we average about 38 inches of rain annually.
Out of the top 100 US cities with the most rainfall, Seattle falls at #44,
the city with the highest rainfall is Mobile, AL.
: : :
I think the reason people believe it rains here all the time
is because when it does rain it takes many hours of rainfall to accumulate much in the gauge.
It can typically rain here for days on end and only receive a an inch or two total.
Our rain is generally light, drizzle mostly.
Most Northwesterners do not bother carrying umbrellas,
they are a nuisance for our type of rain,
but if you watched the movie ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ or ‘Fraiser’ the tv series,
you’d think we all have one permanently attached
to our right hand!

Here,
on one of those foggy winter days,
a Douglas Fire tree
clings to the last bit of earth
before the top soil gives way to the marshy area
and finally
some sand and pebbles
at KVI Beach

I think we have more fog when it’s warmer, in GA. Lovely shot, Madge!
I like the silhouette amidst the fog. I think I’d rather have snow than fog though.
There’s always something quite awesome about fog. It makes me understand that life has its not-so-crystal-clear moments.
A lovely image…seems to match my mood♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/window-stopping/
Beautiful.. We have fog at many times of the year . Mostly in the spring and fall . Hoping to get a blog done and play as well.
Lovely fog shot! We have mostly had frost around here, but I love a foggy morning.
Fog makes for some beautiful shots.
That is so atmospheric! :)
A wonderful capture of the fog, Madge! I have great respect for the fog – it completely blocks the sight in traffic … and feels so mysterious!
so pretty…i love foggy shots!
Love this foggy shot. I had no idea about Mobile. Learn something everyday!
that is an amazing shot, Madge! I, being from Indiana, thought it must rain nearly every day, and I wondered why anyone would want to live in your state! It’s good to be better informed. thanks, Madge!
Gorgeous shot it can be amazing the difference fog can make. x

ps ~ a bit late in posting ~ feel like the Mad Hatter ~ cold and snow weather getting to me ~ ^_^
Very pretty, Madge. Fog adds such an interesting dimension to photos.
Beautiful, Madge xo
It is foggy here too. I think all of eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, and SW Idaho are covered in it. People are getting cranky. :)
That was our tom turkey stealing the finch food. :)
that’s really lovely.
Beautiful capture, very dark and dramatic. I don’t think I could live in a climate that has so much fog. I need my sunshine!
That isn’t much rain at all. I am surprised.
You showed fog yesterday and I showed fog today. We have had three days of fog and that wonderful misty, satin-like rain. The kind that soaks in. We needed it.
