Amusement rides are meant to thrill and entertain riders.

Here,
at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup,
a young boy sits on the exit steps of the ride called ‘Jumping,’
watching those brave enough to swirl dizzily round and round, up and down.
: : :
I’ve been ‘Doing the Puyallup’ all my life.
Arriving at the Puyallup Fair in 1956,
when I was six years old,
somehow I had my hand in the way and the middle finger on my right hand was smashed
in the door of my parents ’49 Plymouth.
Mom and dad wanted to take us home.
Regardless of the pain,
I wanted to continue on into the Fair for all that awaited us there!
My sister could ride all those swirly rides,
but not me,
my speed was the merry-go-round, fun house
and tunnel of love with the boats.
I still cannot ride on amusement rides,
they don’t make me sick,
they make me crazy scared,
like panic attack time.
I do LOVE photographing them though!
: : :
What about you, can you ride on all the rides at the fair?

Wow..a fantastic shot, and pretty colors too!
Fabulous shot – but I too cannot ride the rides – any of them – at the fair – PANIC!!!! Our kids and grandsons love them – I’ll just watch, thankyouverymuch!!!
I have habitually avoided the fast, dangerous looking rides. A ferris wheel is close to my maximum. :-)
Very cool, Madge. Love it. I only ride the Ferris Wheel occasionally. I don’t trust the rides due to the repetitive dismantling. I’m sure it is easy for them to get complacent with all the taking down and putting back up again week after week.
I am as mesmerized as that young boy. What an amzing capture!
Fabulous photograph ~ colors are amazing and the light! ~ Used to love all the rides ~ the scarier the better ~ Not now, though, much rather have feet on the ground taking photos ~ happy weekend to you ~ carol ^_^
Wow – that’s an amazing photograph! Really captures the motion of that ride.
Excellent composition! I love those beautiful colors! Wonderful carousel!
this photo made me think “Wheeeeeeeee” but I would not ride it. the only thing I rode and would ride now is the Merry Go round. no tunnels no fun mirrors. i am the original chicken little…
Wonderfully colorful goodness!
Love the captured motion.
So brings back memories of the annual carnival in my hometown when I was growing up.
You make me dizzy.
Great shot- so bright and colorful! I can’t even swing on a swing without getting dizzy. The older I get, the less I desire to let my feet leave the ground.
Wonderful composition. Love watching the rides as well; I’m not a thrill seeker♫ Thanks for hosting!
Madge!!! It was so nice to see your smiling face on my blog. It’s been awhile. This is a crazy amazing shot you captured here. I used to love the tilt-a-whirl and the scrambler. It’s been YEARS since I went on an amusement park ride. Take care!
Great shot! but looking at this just makes my stomach churn!
I’m not a fan or the rides at the fairs…except – like you – I enjoy photographing them. :)
Oh I adore this shot!!
I used to ride all the rides but now that I’m older can’t tolerate spinny ones. I’m prone to bad vertigo. I still like coasters though.
Madge….I would love to capture a ride with all that wonderful color as you have done here! I didn’t even go to our County Fair this year….one of the big hits at the carnival this year was to ride in a bubble in a pool of water! It was expensive, but mothers said it was so worth the cost. I saw some of the images on Facebook. I don’t ride anything like this; I was dizzy for hours after riding the Octopus years and years ago at one carnival. When we went to Disneyland, I stayed with the kid rides with our 7-year-old. :-)
Love the vivid colors.
Love, love LOVE this shot! The light and movement are simply magical, almost otherworldly.
Nope. You won’t find me on any rides. I could probably handle the littlest kiddie rides. Maybe. You know how they have those rulers that say “You have to be this tall to go on this ride”? Well, I think there’s also an age chart and I max’d out.
A magical photo!
But I was not at trade shows for decades. They are too loud for me, autism suffer much in too many stimuli …
As a child I loved to fly whirling chains, as ever I loved flying. But other things do not, so I would never go.
Big fairs are anyway not where I live – I do not know what for horror it’s all today –
Have a nice sunday
Lovely. I love seeing photos of moving light.
Great colour and movement in this shot!
Brilliant shot! Love the movement in it! :)
no way – I DO NOT like amusement park rides either ! They make me too dizzy and too scared! great shot !!
Hehe, I don’t like them either yet I always find myself riding at least one, even though they make me sooooo dizzy. :))
Always loved the Tilt-A-Whirl.
Great shot, so colorful and magical! :)
what a wonderful image!! love the movement, love the colors…..and it makes me wonder what the little boy is thinking about!! perhaps he enjoys watching, more then riding…that’s my preference!!
many thanks for stopping by!!
Excellent composition, Madge. And, no, I don’t like rides. I don’t like heights or swirling actions.
Not a big fan of riding amusement park/fair rides — but they do make for amazing photos.
Love this shot! My vision is messed up, so I do get sick on the fast rides. I did an underground roller coaster once, and I LOVED it!
I´m not good at stuff like that. Behind the camera is good and safe.
Thanks for hosting!
I feel a bit dizzy…
What an incredible shot!
Awesome shot. Really captures the excitement of the ride!
