Native Indian Paint Brush - Mount Saint Helens National Monument

Flowers almost always make a lovely photographic subject.

:  :  :

Bright scarlet

against deep emerald green grass,

native Washington Indian Paintbrush flourishes in the thin alpine air near Mount Saint Helens.

The purple

in the upper left corner of the image

is native Washington Lupine, an equally lovely wild flower.

I’m home from work today.

Yesterday,

I twisted my ankle, fell,

catching myself with my arms.

Then I gimped around all day,

came home last night and elevated it with ice.

Today,

my ankle is swollen and quite sore,

so is my right arm.

Have I ever told you

that ‘grace’

is not

my middle name??

Today,

is ‘Tuesday Muse‘ over at my friend Nancy’s place,

‘A Rural Journal.

  1. OMG! Hope you are mending and quickly. I’m still in physical therapy…there are good days and there are bad and the bad are so discouraging…ugh! This floral shot is outstanding. I’m so jealous…I haven’t been out through the local fields and gardens and I suspect by the time I can get out, all the color may be gone. Hopefully Fall will be brilliant. Wishing you good health and a quick mend!

  2. stunning macro of such exquisite flowers! ouch! take care of yourself and I’ll add an extra prayer for your injuries. my sweetheart called me “an accident looking for a place to happen.” sadly it’s true! just feel better.

  3. Madge! You need to take care of yourself! Since I had my hip replacement two years ago, I am so wary of all kinds of little steps and moves that I used to take without thinking. I saw some Indian Paintbrush a couple of weeks ago in the mountains….it was really beautiful in early summer.

  4. Please take good care of your self. It is no fun when you can’t move around like you are used to.. By the way what a beautiful scarlet color, and this grows at St. Helens? I have not been back there in such a long time. What is like now?

    1. For some reason I cannot load your website… I hope you stop back by to read this response. The areas outside the Mount Saint Helens National Monument have been reseeded and the forests are growing again. The area inside the park were left to recover naturally and the ground while some small trees dot here and there and wild flowers grow, the blow down area is very evident…
