How often do women wear dresses these days?
: : :
How often do you see a woman in a dress?
At work, at school, at church?
: : :
It is not unusual to see a women riding a bicycle,
but to see one riding a bicycle in a dress, is.
: : :
Here,
a young woman stops to chat with a friend
she bumped into at Pike Place Market while out doing her shopping
on a bicycle and in a black dress with white polka dots.
: : :
She made me think
she could have been at the market in France,
or Italy.
: : :
I enjoy wearing dresses,
and feeling feminine.
Not all the time,
but often enough…

I hardly ever wear a dress, but when I do it feels really nice and my husband likes when I wear them too!
I wear a dress on Sundays, and sundresses every now and then. I would love to wear them more often, just don’t have that many.
The older I get, the more I’m liking dresses! Never tried riding a bike in one, though! :)
Definitely has a european feel to the shot with the cobble stone street and brick sidewalk.
lovely capture – I wear a dress or a skirt EVERYDAY! Yep! I’m old school. I think it is the influence from my eastern Euro grandmother! I never saw her in anything but a frock!
That must be an excellent way to feel distinctive from the crowd and usual dress of women. I think handling a dress with pedaling would require some careful skill.
What are can’t help noticing are her shoes (cycling with a heel!) and the cute woolly cardigan (but that is just because I am a bit obsessed with wool).
I seldom wear a dress, unless I’m in it for the hahahahahas!
I’ve never been to Europe, but I’ve seen many images of women wearing dresses riding bicycles. And I just watched “Call the Midwife” on PBS, in which those young women –and nuns, too, I think–rode bikes. This is a great image. (I love wearing black (and white) and wish I could get away with wearing it to our son’s wedding in two weeks!)
Yep, I see this a lot in Portland too. Many bike commuters here. Great shot!
Super image, Madge! Yes, great to see women in dresses and it does seem to be on the wane. You did indeed capture that continental feel with her in the market.
Lots of great textures in this shot!
I cycle plenty but would never think to wear a dress, I thought that was just for adverts!
More women should wear dresses.
In spite of her helmet and clunky shoes, she looks quite elegant.
I love the polkadot dress with the bike. What a great combo.
I wonder if she has a helmet for every outfit.
Lovely photo. Strangely enough after avoiding dresses for years I bought a couple this summer and have really enjoyed wearing them. But haven’t worn them riding a bike yet!
I think dresses are becoming more popular
I just stopped at an “out of the way” shop and bought two skirts! Perhaps I’ll be in style…:)JP
Cute photo!
Charming!!!! Sigh!!
sweet shot madge:-)
First let me say that I really like the photo. the pattern of the cobblestones are great with the polka dots. I like the way the picture tells a story and the happy look on her face. I wear dresses all the time. I am actually more comfortable in them than I am in pants. I think women look so pretty even in casual dresses and skirts. I can’t stand the way we’ve been so lazy that we walk around in sweatpants and pajama bottoms.
I agree… highschool girls who ride my bus go to school in pjs and bedroom slippers… really?
I wanted to buy a dress awhile back and I couldn’t find a store that carried any type of selection. I complained to several, and was told women don’t wear dresses anymore. The funny thing is that in hot, humid areas, a light weight dress or skirt is much more comfortable and cool that pants. Go figure!
That is so true… I guess, we’ll all have to sharpen up our sewing skills… (I love to sew BTW).
A very nice foto!
Oh yeah, I also enjoy wearing dresses,
and feeling feminine.

This is a beautiful dress that I would like to wear.
To wear only a helmet I could never bring myself.
It is lacking in style and fit only to sporty look, not to me –
