Small towns used to be the backbone of America.
: : :
I said used to be,
but in my heart I hope it still is.
Where community really means something.
If you want to hide,
move to a big city, where most people don’t even know the names of their next door neighbors.
In a small town,
you know and are known.
I like that.
: : :
Here,
in the very early morning,
just about twenty minutes after sunrise,
the shadows are long, the streets were quiet and deserted,
with the exception of one lady.
She was already busy watering the many pots of blooming flowers
around the short downtown main street of LaCrosse WA.
I wonder if she is the spirit
and effort behind the lovely flowers gracing main street.
: : :
I liked the play of light and shadow across the street.
Highlighting the LaCrosse Cafe and the Pastime tavern,
with the grain elevators towering over it all.
Of interest,
if you look there is the outline of a star atop the elevator,
I surmise it is lit up at
Christmastime.

Light and composition are nice.
Greetings, Joop
Very striking photo.
Everything you post is just fascinating!
Looks like a scene out of a movie!
A familiar sight – West Virginia is built on one small community beside another small community; even our large cities are small by comparison. This is a comforting shot – a relatable spot where you can catch your breath and ‘fit in’.
Your picture makes me miss the small towns of Kansas. :)
Totally reminds me of the small town I grew up in which had a grain elevator. Definitely small town America photo!
Madge, this shot could have been taken right here in Indiana. ;-) It reminds me of the small towns we drive through just north of Lafayette. I love the early light you captured.
Didn’t have time for a new post this week, so I’m linking to one from earlier in the month.
A fine shot of the commercial grain storage units. The side lighting adds to the drama of the picture. Well done.
Small towns are certainly full of character. Love this photo and I bet you are right about the star :)
Another dynamic shot ~ very well done ~ thanks, carol, xo
And an American flag can be spotted in every small town…love it♫
Cute little town.
Beautiful photo and text to go along with it, Madge.
Looks very much like our main street. :)
Love the look of this small town with the American flag . Small towns are where we spend our money when we travel. Gotta support them to keep them around.
betsy
love this shot of small town usa!
You capture rural towns like this perfectly. I live in WA state and have no clue where Lacrosse is located. I did notice the star on top of the tower.
LaCrosse is about 15 or 20 miles west-northwest of Colfax (near Pullman)…
