One-room school houses, now seem quaint and old fashioned.
: : :
Here in rural Spokane County,
a one-room white clapboard school house sits abandoned.
Even though it was probably thrown into disuse in the 1940s, it still stands straight and sturdy some 70 years later.
I loved the green and white shutters contrasted by the weathered white clapboards,
and the deep blue sky reflected in the window panes.

Today, I’ve been searching for a recipe for ‘Sticky Buns.’
I haven’t made them in quite a few years so I can’t remember where I would find the recipe I’ve used.
I’ve looked through all my hand written and computer generated recipes and found nothing,
but I’ve found two recipes called ‘Sticky Buns,’ in two cookbooks.
One by Marcia Adams called ‘Heartland,’ from a PBS tv cooking series a few years back
and the other is by Julia Childs called ‘Baking with Julia.’
Hopefully one of those is it!
My mouth is watering already…

Hi Madge,
Glad to hear you are on the mend and that you have started PT. Keep it up!
Love this photo and how the shutters look more cared for than the wood siding.
Good luck with finding the right sticky bun recipe. Sounds delicious! Right now I am listening to the 17-year-cicada invasion concert outside my windows. Very cool indeed.
hmm…I had been wondering about your health. Glad to hear you’re doing PT. I’m glad for you and the clarinet playing man about enjoying the cicadas. As for me, not so much. Luckily, I haven’t heard them around me.
Nice shot Madge. I like how the green of the shutter plays with the green of the bush. If you make a couple extra sticky buns can you send them to Connecticut for me :)
I just love your image today, and such a beautiful reflection in the windows!
Sticky Buns, eh? And here I am, searching for gluten-free recipes… Enjoy those Sticky Buns! ;-9
sweet old window!
Most everything I know about one room schoolhouses is from the TV show, The Walton’s. I’m glad you found this one to show us!
A great post, lovely image and I hope you enjoy your sticky buns ;)
My grandma taught school in a one room schoolhouse. Thanks for bringing that memory to mind. :)
Sticky Buns sounds wonderful. Cool old school house too.
I can practically smell them baking! :) Enjoy!
Love the reflection of the clouds in the window, beautiful! I love Sticky Buns but have never tried making them!
The reflection of the blue sky and clouds was the first think I noticed, Madge! Lovely.
Here is my go-to recipe for Caramel Rolls. If you need an easy to make, sure thing treat this is the way to go: http://theranchwifechronicles.com/caramel-rolls-for-coffee-break/.
Lovely photo and great train of thought- to go with it. Hope Pacific North West is as sunny as England’s north west is this week ;-)
Yummmmm – sticky buns. What a great capture of the window shutters! I love to see old one room schoolhouses. I’ve found quite a few of them around my area – apparently they were in use until the 1960s.
LOVE this shot! The sky reflection is a big bonus.
Most of those near me have been left to the elements.
Wonderful shot and reflection.
Well, now I am wanting sticky buns.
I love the old school photo – so sad to see them in disuse. I started school in a one room school house in Lotus, CA – just down the road from where gold was discovered.
I’m glad you are doing well enough to make sticky buns – enjoy!
Madge,
Hope you are doing well-sticky buns, yum…
Love this shot of the shutters and windows, makes a person start to think about days gone by.
Jemma
Wish I could sit with you and a cup of coffee and a sticky bun and visit for a few hours. xo
I really like your shutter picture. Good eye to see the possibility for this shot. Well done.
Here’s one recipe that sounded good. I use King Arthur products. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/sticky-buns-recipe
Neat photo! And sticky buns sound fantastic :)
Another perfect photo with the green trimmed shutter and sky reflected in the window!
Oooooooooo, sticky buns and a cup of coffee! Hmmm, the closest I’ll get to a sticky bun right now is Dunkin Donuts or Shop Rite on the way home…homemade is so much better!
Great shot. I love photographing old buildings, I always think it’s important to preserve in pictures what might be torn down soon.
We’re kidding here! That’s pretty much it. Love the rustic look of the window and shutter.
Madge…. it’s difficult to find anyone who photographs the wonderful features of rural America (specifically, the state of Washington) the way you do. The green accents here are delightful, and I love your point of view.
oh, Madge, I missed the deadline but I do love that schoolhouse although I love sticky buns more!…:)JP
Madge, I remember being taken to a one-room school house as show and tell. I was the city girl come to visit a rural area and the other children oohed and aahed at me as they stared. Fun memories as I look at your beautiful photo.
