Samish Island is a jewel in the salty blue waters of northern Puget Sound.
: : :
Early in the 20th century,
settlers connected Samish Island to the western Washington mainland
by a series of dikes.
: : :
Today looking at a map,
Samish Island appears to be a short,
very narrow peninsula about a mile wide and nearly four miles long.
: : :
Here, while enjoying a weekend away with girlfriends a few years ago,
I’ve shot a captivating scene at sunset,
looking northwest towards Vancouver Island in Canada.
: : :
The snippet of land on the left across Samish Bay,
is the tip of another small island, Vendovi,
which is a nature preserve.
