I’ve always heard it said that everyone gets to be Irish for a day, and that day of course would be Saint Patrick’s Day!
: : :
Normally, I’d be out with my camera gear, scouring the city streets
for sights to capture and upload to celebrate this fun holiday.
But not being able to get out and take any photos for quite some time, what would I upload?
I sat quietly, thoughts swirling, it is Saint Patrick’s Day,
could I create something with pen, paper and
ink to illustrate the day?
: : :
Sitting down with a fresh piece of Bristol paper,
I picked two out two bottles of ‘Private Reserve’ ink, one in ‘Spearmint,’
and the other in ‘Shoreline Gold,’ the green and gold seemed the perfect choice.
My calligraphy is still somewhat viable, but I think it looks rather shaky,
the letters are not as even as they should be and as a whole not as pretty as I’d like.
But as with any craft, time and practice make all the difference.
This little 5″x7″ piece is my finished effort.

Our corned beef is in a large pot, simmering, filling the house with a mouth watering scent.
Carrots, potatoes, onion and green cabbage are waiting their turn to be dropped into the briny water.
I’ll wait about an hour and then make a fresh loaf of Irish Soda Bread.
In a few hours, when the corned beef, vegetables and soda bread come together on our supper plates,
they will make one delicious Irish meal!

May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.

‘Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Your work is just beautiful Madge!
very pretty, madge!
Had my corned beef dinner last Sunday and yesterday…both provided by local Amerigan Legion Posts. Both dinner were wonderful….so much so I may have to stop tomorrow on the way home and pick up some ingredients for a dinner to make myself! Beautiful calligraphy! And I can relate to your perfection….I was once hired to calligraphy a lengthy poem for someone. They wanted 3 originals to give as gifts. I went through a ton of parchment and I vowed never again to take a job like that. Now, if I bring out the nibs and ink, it’s for my pleasure alone!
Beautiful calligraphy.
I think you did a lovely job with the calligraphy-my hand is definitely not stead enough to try. I hope you are back out and about soon!
wow totally wonderful job.. I’ve done very little with pen and ink – you have inspired me – Thanks
Love the colors and the huge letter “S” how you did that and I don’t see that your hand is shaky..I see very very nice hand writing! I bet your home smelled realllllllllllllllly good..
Hugs
Great job! And Happy St. Patrick’s Day from an Irish born Canadian currently in Sedona.
Was going to have corned beef dinner tonight but this condo has a BBQ so we want to use it!!
Your calligraphy is beautiful, Madge!
Your calligraphy is absolutely beautiful and you have not lost your touch! Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
That calligraphy is fantastic!! Very pretty! And your rainbow photo in your post below is wonderful too. I wish it was rainbow season here. The snow is still coming down. I don’t think spring will ever get here. :(
Hope you had a terrific St. Patrick’s day and that you have an awesome week!

You are way too hard on yourself Madge — you could seriously design cards for Hallmark. Beautiful!
being left handed has caused me some silly and some uncomfortable moments in my life .. and then there was the class in hand lettering where i had to learn to sketch in the words and then letter from left to right so as not to smear what i had just inked …
Wow, Madge! That’s really beautiful! Be more gentle with your self-criticism. Even when I was working at calligraphy I was never able to produce anything this pretty. Happy (belated) St. Patrick’s Day!
Stunningly beautiful – that is a gift to be able to do caligraphy. Happy St. Pat’s day – a little late.
