Just twenty-two more days until the spring equinox on March 20th.
What is it about the changing of the seasons which brings such a sense of longing?
: : :
I’m thankful to live in a region where each season is distinct,
so we turn a corner (so to speak)
in the Pacific Northwest four times a year.
: : :
Spring, brings to mind warmer temperatures,
longer days, songs of the wild birds, early flowers, farm babies,
emerging leaves on the deciduous trees, fewer bulky clothes.
: : :
Mid-January brings the first harbinger of spring, as I watch with anticipation
for the first burst of fuzzy white pussy willows.
After those first sightings,
I know sap is beginning to flow
and spring is coming soon
: : :
Here, along the Physt River, on the Olympic Peninsula,
lovely violet colored Wood Hyacinths and a lone yellow Buttercup grow.
The lush green, moist riparian area underneath the canopy of the broad leaf maple trees,
provides the perfect habitat for woodland flowers.
They will be reappearing there soon.
Soon!

i think NE Tx is running late this year, but we’re finally seeing some spring beauties and small bluet in the yard, here.
My signs of spring are when the robin return and when the snowdrops peek their tiny heads above the frozen ground. So looking forward to spring this year!
Beautiful picture. The temperatures are much milder and some snow is melting, early signs of spring.
Very nice, Madge. In Connecticut, the first signs are crocuses. Not very fancy, but a good sign of what is coming.
Such a beautiful image – so vibrant. You wouldn’t believe your eyes if you could see my yard – buried under tons of snow…
Hard to think spring will be coming under the FEET of snow and more coming tomorrow in Maine.
But, I need to get tapping these trees. The sap will remind me it’s soon. :)
Stunning color.
Yes, the air is changing. It’s around the corner.
This shot is beautiful and delightful!
I hope Spring is coming soon. I’m ready for green leaves outside my window.
The robins have returned to my yard so I know it’s getting close.
So looking forward to the spring blooms and getting out in the fresh air.
Just gorgeous photo, Madge… I am SO ready for spring–but we still have several days (at least) of winter ahead this week…. Thanks for the preview of spring… YEAH.
Hugs,
Betsy
Gorgeous shot, Madge! Daylight! More daylight! It’s staying light until almost 6 o’clock! That’s got to mean life’s starting to unfurl right behind it. . .
Oh, Wow!!! That is a fabulous photograph!!! We are still in winter and here such beautiful purple flowers and a little yellow flower.
I truly miss spring and summer. This morning was still snowing where I live.
Greetings from Kaya
Love that bright purple with the yellow! Oh, please hurry up Mr. Spring! But my daffodils are starting to come up and my store bought primroses and pansies are blooming, so I know it is just around the corner! xx
Yes, where art thou??? That’s my question too. The temprature is mild and here and there I can see signs of life, and that makes me happy. I didn’t know wood Hyacinths excisted (but now I do), and I love the lonely Buttercup… it looks like it’s peeking.
Beautiful! Purple is one of my favorite colors!! No spring in sight here yet.
What a beautiful picture! I love purple and yellow flowers together!! :)
The first sign of spring around here is when the wind starts HOWLING!! LOL!!
it has not come that far but the first signs area here. :)
Gorgeous photo!! The only sign of spring we have on the “official” first day of spring is that we have more daylight hours than nighttime hours. We won’t see the melting begin until April.
