Night lights, creating a sense of safety by illuminating dark areas where one might walk.
Of course the lights and bright neon here at the Union Street entrance to Post Alley,
just south of Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market,
are lit not only for safety, but for enjoyment.
I loved the play of light and shadow,
and the flow of colors reflected upon buildings,
bricks and street.
: : :
I’ve never suffered from nyctophobia,
fear of the dark, but many do.
That fear can persist
well beyond the childhood years.
We have two night lights,
one in our bathroom,
and one in the kitchen,
to cast a bit of light,
if one gets up in the night.
: : :
There was a time a few years ago though
that I would wake up from a sound sleep,
in a state of being petrified.
Afraid to breathe,
for fear someone was in our bedroom
and would hear me.
Those episodes lasted for about a year
and then vanished.
Odd, don’t you agree?
Do you suffer from odd sleep disturbances
from time to time?

Madge, I love coming here and viewing all the other photos! The colors reflecting off the building in your photo really make it special!
Your city just has THE BEST signage. Keep those sign photos coming. :)
I’m not usually afraid of the dark if I can see a tiny bit of light somewhere to guide my footsteps. Mostly I’m afraid of tripping over something.
LOVE the moodiness !
Wonderful – Thanks again for hosting…
I just love all the neon lights you share! :)
We have a couple of night lights too, just so we can see if we get up in the middle of the night. I used to be VERY afraid of the dark when I lived in the city. Now that I live in the country, I walk around outside at night without even thinking about it!
Madge, you have the eye of an artist, you captured the colorful neon lights beautifully.
Thanks for hosting WTS.
Another awesome neon sign to add to your growing collection! :)
I love the photo. It looks so inviting.
Hi Madge, I like the colors, shades and perspective in your picture ~ I can easily imagine shabby alleys and the uncertainty, that might follow … We have a dim light at the bathroom at nights – also when staying over at new places.
Great shot, Madge. I love the low light and the beacon fo the neon sign.
Thanks for hosting.
Such a lovely night shot, Madge!
Hi!
Lovely night photo wuith stunning colours.
have a nice evening
/Ingemar
Oh my! The colors in this shot are so inspiring… just might have to hit the dyepots :)
Have a great weekend!
Happy dyeing… ;-)
Great shot – love the colors and shine to it. Just last night I woke up and heard someone opening and closing the refrigerator and walking in the kitchen – and yet there was no one out of bed in our house – it was a little frightening since it was so clear, but I was able to reason myself into going back to sleep. Mostly I just sleep through the night – for which I am thankful.
Again – my link is solid black – not sure why that happens – I do the same thing each week and sometimes it works and sometimes not.
I’ll fix it for you… :-)
I love the colors in this shot. I’m a little bit afraid of the dark – mostly just not being able to see. I’m glad you got over waking up terrified – I think I’d have to sleep with a light on, and my husband would not like that!
Ya, I’d say odd. Never had this type of ‘attack’.
oh I know – I was downtown last night and I opted to NOT bring my camera b/c I had my two little ones with me and I knew I would be holding little hands instead – but oh do I regret it!
Just like a rainbow at night, it’s terrific!
beautiful shot with so many colors and shades.
glad that phase of your life passed!
I like some jewel colors in this picture. Lovely! Thank you for hosting, Madge!
Love the colors and it fits the topic perfectly!!
Thanks Jim… your first comment here…! :-)
Beautiful light and color, photo delicious, exciting and very poetic at night.
Hi Madge,
Gorgeous photo! I love the reflections. Thank you for hosting. Have a great weekend. I have some snow to shovel!
LOVE all the colors from the reflections too…beautiful! So glad you don’t have any more nightly escapades, that would be very unsettling for sure!
Beautiful night shot ! Thank you for hosting another lovely party Madge.
Sometimes I have those paralyzing night terrors where I can hear breathing and feel someone in the room with me. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s terrifying. Glad yours left you! Thank you so much for hosting this wonderful meme. I get to meet so many wonderful bloggers. :)
I’m so glad that’s not a problem for you now Madge… sounds terrifying.
Great framing!
I love how the green of the sign picks up that green in the architecture to the right.
Must agree with the reader who said you have the best signage in your city – makes for wonderful shots and you do it well!
When I was young I was afraid of the dark. Not so much afraid of the dark anymore as cautious of what’s in it. :)
Love the colors in this shot! Sleep disturbances…all the time!!!
No night fears for me, but I guess it can always happen! Beautiful capture of the play of light and colors in this otherwise-dark place, Madge.
How nice to have these saturated colors at night! Well done! Thanks again for hosting.
The colours are fantastic, a really lovely image.
Madge, I am trying to get caught up with blogging. We had computer issues last week. For some reason your blog would not come up on my Kindle Fire. I missed your posts.
Congratulations on starting up Rurality. I will be joining! From a real life Country Girl, I love the enthusiasm for our lifestyle that you and your followers share. Thank You.
Working on a blog post to link up with Top Shot tomorrow.
Thanks Robyn… sorry for your computer woes, I’ll see you tomorrow (and Wednesday for ‘Rurality…) ;-)
Awesome shot!
Love your edit too!
Marvelous!!

As always ~ magnificent photography ~ love the night shot ~ thanks for hosting ~
Carol from (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
I REALLY love this shot. You are so good with your camera.
I’m having a candle giveaway …come by and try for a win. :))
The colors of the neon just pop and really make the shot.
Great neon sign and there’s obviously some light from elsewhere that’s adding to the warm ambiance.
Hope you’re having a great weekend,
~Lindy
Hi Madge, you have one of the best eyes I’ve ever run across! Another fabulous photo and I’m joining in today; hope I’ve done it correctly.
Oh, night lights…in almost every room because when I get up at night I want to be able to see without turning on glaring lights. Night lights are ever so much easier on the eyes. Of course it means I almost never re-arrange the furniture -grin.
Since Dave died, sleep disturbances are normal and they stink.
Great night shot! Nice lighting!
With every image you share, I get more and more excited about my trip to Seattle!
That is a great night shot, Madge. I love all the colors–it really brightens up the night. I have a fun shot for you today, enjoy! :)
Love your night shots… great colors in this one!!
My goodness, what happened that you developed such a thing? I’m so sorry, but I’m glad it’s gone, now… that had to be stressful! =0
I like both the composition and the neon colour! Great shot!
Your photos always make me want to travel. The only place I have seen neon lights is London.
Thanks for hosting.
Nice shot Madge-love the neon!
So glad you don’t have that night terror anymore…
