Full of activity, the maintenance shop for Amtrak is lit up and engines are running.
Here in the SODO (south of downtown) neighborhood of Seattle,
South Holgate Street slices the Amtrak railroad yard in half.
Passing by early this morning,
I heard the engines rumble
and saw the shop lights and was intrigued.
: : :
I don’t know about you,
but I am always drawn to industrial activities.
: : :
Perhaps, it is because I worked on Harbor Island for 20 years,
for both the Port of Seattle and
Seattle Stevedore (now Stevedoring Services of America).
Daily, I was exposed to the noise,
activities, smells and people,
who were involved in international, national
and local import and export of goods,
via ocean going ships, rail and truck.
All kinds of goods,
both as break-bulk cargo and in containers.
I never tired of looking up and seeing 500 to 1,000 foot ships glide silently into berth.
: : :
I came to love the blue-collar,
hard working areas of Seattle.

That is a really neat shot! I love seeing behind the scenes :)
You come up with the most interesting photos!
you’ve really captured the energy of the moment Madge!
I love the industrial stuff as well and I think trains rank among my favorite. It’s nice the street cuts through the area. I bet there are many other photo ops in the area.
I love your photo. I don’t spend much time in industrial areas. You make it look fascinating. I need to hurt some places out this summer to try this type of photography.
Another example of why your blog is one of my favorites. Not just flowers and birds. Real life and behind the scenes.
great shot, as usual!
This is a really cool shot. I couldn’t help but think how much my husband would have loved to go play in that train yard. Thanks for the reminder and smiles.
Love the contrast of warm lights and cold atmosphere on that shot.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Very well done industrial-type photo! The lights make it really interesting.
Ooohhh, I love that early morning light. Thank you so much for hosting WTS!
