Established in 1888, the Jules Maes Saloon has been opening it’s doors to hungry and thirsty customers for 125 years.
Having been remodeled a number of times,
it still has a historic look and blue-collar feel.
When it first opened all those years ago,
the Rainier Brewery was across the street,
in a beautiful complex of old red brick buildings.
The brewery employed 300,
that’s a lot of thirsty men.

Georgetown is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Seattle.
It ‘got left in the past,’
for years it was just dingy and rundown.
But a few years ago,
people began to notice the small neighborhood.
As home prices rose dramatically in Seattle,
you could still purchase a modest old home in Georgetown for a proverbial song.
And you were only about three miles from downtown.
Homes and businesses alike have seen renovation and revitalization,
but regardless of a new coat of paint,
the neighborhood still retains its blue-collar down-to-earthiness.

My husband and and I enjoy eating out during happy hour several times a month.
Prices are more reasonable then.
We always go late on Friday afternoons before the after work crowd gets out.

Yesterday,
we decided to try Jules Maes Saloon.
It was already quite busy when we arrived,
but we scored a table for two tucked into a corner next to a large front window.
We each ordered a beer,
my husband had a PBR and I had a Manny’s Pale Ale from the Georgetown Brewery.
We also ordered an appetizer plate called ‘Flatliners.’
I have no idea what the name represents.
It was tatertots topped with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese,
diced onion, green pepper, fresh tomato,
and crumbled bacon with a dollop of sour cream.
It was really tasty,
I plan on making some here at home,
it was that good!

Looks like such a warm and inviting place!
love this photo!! I can imagine myself there tonight!! LOL
It surely does look like a fine establishment to grab a brewski!
Tater tots, cheese, bacon and sour cream? That’s why they call it a flatliner! It looks like you might have gotten flat on the floor to take this lovely shot!
You captured the atmosphere perfectly…especially at this angle! Looks like a great place!
Nice atmospheric shot is what first came to my mind, too.
great shot of the Saloon. :)
Love the perspective!
didnt sound too artery clogging to moi .. sounded yum ..
I love the warm golds and browns you captured, it really makes the place feel inviting…great shot and one I think the place would love to have too! Thanks for hosting!
What a great shot – love the perspective!
that is a long time for a bar to be around! it certainly has a warm and cozy feeling to it. I love all those flavorful foods you mentioned, but no more can I indulge in such tasty fatty foods.
I love that shot!! Having a shot here looks very inviting!!!
Hi Madge, A lovely, low perspective to the Saloon – looks like a cozy place! A real nice tradition to go out on Friday afternoons … The appetizer sounds really delicious :-)
Looks like a nice, bright and beautiful place!
Great perspective, and I love the history you gave.
maybe they were called flatliners because eating them is likely to give you are heart attack! They sound delicious!
How could they call it ‘flatliner’? It has veggies in it ;-) This looks like a great place to enjoy after a day at the office.
such a warm and inviting image Madge!
Sounds like Georgetown’s version of ‘Cheers’. Its nice to see old towns come back to life.
Thanks for hosting WTS, Madge.
Love the tone — warm and cozy. Great action shot — showing people doing what people do on a Seattle evening. :)
You have captured the ambiance perfectly Madge! I’d love to have a couple of brew there!
Thanks for hosting.
Lovely colours in this image, Madge. This area and its historic buildings sounds delightful.
Thanks for hosting.
Thanks for hosting, Madge. Flatliners sound AMAZING! :D
Looks like a great place to go on a Friday afternoon! I’m always happy to hear when a rundown neighborhood has been revitalized.

What a great place! Love the textural interesting, the lighting, and the angle of the shot!
It looks like the sort of place I would want to hang up my jacket on a brass hook … Pull up a stool and enjoy a coffee and a chat.
You have captured the ambiance of the place beautifully.
Looks a lovely place to go.
Thanks for hosting. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
I love hearing about once abandoned areas coming alive again. I think I know why that dish was called ‘flatliners’! Hee. My husband’s cardiologist would not approve. :) But it certainly sounds wickedly delicious!
This is a warm and appealing place. You had a good location to take this shot.
Wonderful perspective on this shot.
Great story and fabulous perspective, Madge. The flatliners sound good!
That looks and sounds like a very cool place! It’s been around a long time, too. I’d enjoy having a drink there!
I enjoyed reading about the saloon. Sounds like an interesting place to eat and watch people. Great shot of the place.
It looks like a lovely, warm sort of place – in a neighbourhood very similar to mine in fact. I like the way you have captured that warmth and the deep perspective.
Love the colours, and the lighting! Looks like a really cosy place! :)
Love the warm light. It looks like some of our local pubs here in the northeast. So welcoming!
These are the establishments my husband and I try to scout out too…our kind of place. Thanks for the party.
Laurie
I enjoy your posts on Seattle, Madge. It’s great to see the city from an insider’s lens. I feel like you’re my personal tour guide. That appetizer sounds yummy. You’ll have to let us know how your dish turns out when you make it. Cheers.
Looks like a great atmosphere!
Great shot, love the perspective. Georgetown sounds like a neighborhood I would immensely enjoy photographing.
I wish there was a neat little bar like that around here! I have never lived “in” a city—actually, I’ve never lived NEAR a city—and I know why urban dwellers like what a city offers. You’ve certainly captured this beautifully, Madge! (I assume you are finally feeling better—I hope???)
I like the low perspective you got on this shot, Madge… makes the photo so much more interesting!
This looks much like the Irish pub we were at in San Antonio, lots of history in some of these establishments.
Beautiful photo, an exquisite result, I like the light and perspective.
What a great shot. It sounds like a fun place to go.
