F/V = Fishing Vessel.
Here at the Ocean Beauty Seafoods dock on the Ship Canal,
in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle,
there are usually a number of fishing boats tied up.
This day was no exception.
We find the F/V Quaker Maid,
a wooden hulled 72 foot boat, with a 19 foot beam,
and able to hold 64 tons of payload (net).
She hails out of Excursion Inlet, Alaska.

I love the colors, the activities, the smell
and the changeability of the boats along the working waterways of Seattle.

I was pleased to sell a couple of images to a nice lady,
whose husband was a halibut fisherman for twenty years.
She wanted to surprise him for Christmas,
with images of the three vessels he had worked on.
That was so satisfying to make someone happy.
my brother and his wife bring their boats down from juneau to be serviced in seattle sometimes. :)
How neat that you sold some prints – always makes a body feel good. I grew up in Alaska and know Excursion Inlet well. I used to know all the boats from Alaska that were in our area – but that was long, long ago in another life. I too love the smell and sounds of the working boats.
Wonderfully interesting shot with lots of interesting elements. Wishing you the very best in 2013, and many, many more great images!!
My husband was a commercial fisherman before we met. Our visits to Seattle always included a pilgrimage to the docks at Ballard, pointing out boats he knew and loved. Talk about hard work! But I think it was one of the favorite parts of his life.
I love all the colors and shapes in that shot – and how awesome to sell some photos!
I love to go down to the fishing docks here and get some great shots of the shrimp and crab boats…they are always so interesting in their colors. How cool that you were able to sell a few to someone that they hold a lot of meaning to.
Congratulations on your sales. Very fulfilling to bring joy to someone with your images.
Oh how exciting to sell your photos.
how very wonderful to get a photo assignment like that .. congrats!
Selling a few prints made the buyer and Madge both happy. That is how we define a win-win.
How fun that you sold some of your photos! I really like this shot, looks like a busy, busy place! :)
Oh the stories those boats could tell! Beautiful images, Madge; it’s always a treat to visit and see your work.
Great capture.
Love this shot.
Congrats on the sale! Excellent! I know what you mean about the boat docks…I love being down the Jersey shore, especially the Point Pleasant Inlet. You can sit and watch the fishing boats go in and out and then, further in, watch as they unload their catch for the wholesale fish stores. Hmmmmm, now I’m really missing summer…not that there is no action right now but, brrrrrrrrr, just too cold!
Great colors in this photo, and there just seems to be a lot going on. Love it!
