He knows when you need a haircut and when you’ll be coming in.
Not really, but Rick’s barbershop is no more.
The building where his shop was located for almost 20 years was torn down.
It was in the way of progress.
It had to make way for a new high-rise development in the West Seattle neighborhood of Seattle.
: : :
Years ago when a psychic moved into the small business space next to Rick’s barber shop,
they displayed a white neon sign proclaiming ‘Psychic.’
Rick then had a matching white neon sign made for his window proclaiming ‘Barber.’
Some years later when the psychic went out of business (I wonder if they ‘saw’ that coming!),
Rick was given the ‘psychic’ neon sign by his landlord and it then became ‘one’ sign hanging in his shop window.
: : :
Out and about during the early evening late last summer, I caught this classic shot of his barber shop window.
I’m glad I did.
He has merged his barbering business with another shop in the area.
It hasn’t been decided whether the sign will grace the front window of the new shop or not.

that makes me laugh. thanks, madge!
Goodness…that is too funny. What a talented guy! :)
Oh gosh, this put me to mind of every time there is a psychic commercial on TV, my husband always remarks “they are expecting your call” or “honestly, they should just call you since they already know what you need.”
In this case, I’m guessing all you had to do is walk in, sit down, and let Rick do his thing cause he already knew what you wanted done. Cuts down the chit-chat. bada bing bada boom!
Glad you captured this one for prosperity.
sad story cool sign… hope he hangs it up again….
That is very funny!
that´s life. And we aften msis the past.
Great story to go along with your photo!
Wonderful post and awesome photo ~ thanks for hosting ~ this is my first time here ^_^
(A Creative Harbor) ^_^
I vote they use this sign! What a hoot and I truly needed this chuckle. Hope your weekend is going well and you’re feeling better. Hugs!
If that were only true! I’m glad you captured this! hilarious!
Sorry, I was wrong to put the first link, please delete the first.
Sure, I deleted it for you!
Terrific story!
Very nice neon sign, shame that no longer exists.
Great find, Madge! I hope they preserve the sign in the new premises.
Thank you for hosting in 2012. All the best in 2013, may it be a year full of health, happiness and prosperity for you!
Thanks for hosting Madge. I hope you’re feeling better this week!
Hah! How efficient is that? Get a haircut and reading in less then an hour…
-Thanks, got my laugh for the day.
Sorry to hear the sign is no longer up.
Love this. Great photo and fun story behind it. Well done.
Hi! It’s a very interesting barber photo. Thank you for sharing with you.
What a fun sign!
Funny story about the sign….but sad to see places like this torn down for “progress”…Happy New Year, Madge. Thanks for hosting this fun weekly top shot each week!!
Love it!! What a great story!!
Happy New Year Madge!!
That is a memorable sign for sure and you have made a great memory with your photograph. Madge you really know what scene /thing to put in your camera and create so many shots that are of things that are now past.
This is too funny, and a great capture! Hope the sign is used on the new shop. Happy New Year!
Great story! Happy New Year, Madge!
Looks a scary shop to me!
I’m not sure I would let a psychic barber cut my hair..I’m imagining someone closing their eyes and chopping my ears off.
Oh that is so sad – whilst being so funny.
This is a really neat photo. I always wondered why the psychics never win the lotteries.
Love the idea of a psychic barber, or better yet, a psychic doctor… :)
Too funny! So I guess I don’t need to explain exactly what I want if I go for a haircut?
Fabulous sign!
This is why I always make u-turns to take photos of things I catch out of the corner of my eye…because you never know when it will ‘disappear’ due to ‘progress’….I love that you captured this sign it is great!!!
Very interesting story. There are a lot of self-proclaimed psychics running about these days so I guess it isn’t surprising that a barber would want to be one, too. Barbers usually like to talk and tell stories, and I’ll bet this one can tell some pretty hairy tales!
Great story and image! It is to bad memories like this have to go! Happy New Year!
What a cool shot and a great story. I’m glad you captured a piece of history.
This gave me a chuckle…I love reading the history about places like this, thanks for sharing.
Psyhic Barber????????? Yikes! Not even funny! Grin.
now that is an unusual sighting!!!
Such a funny sign! Your comments on it made me laugh, too :) I’m liking up my photos of my chickens in the snow this week. Thanks for hosting, Madge! Happy New Year!
Ha, good one Madge :^) Great find. I hope you have a wonderful new year, and lots of great pictures too!
Great story and photo.
Wish you a happy new year.
From Hilda
Oh Madge, I do hope the sign is a keeper! It is a nove lidea!…:)JP
Such a great picture to a well written story – I couldn’t help laughing to your dry sarcastic comments :-)
Happy New Year to you, Madge!
That’s a unique shot. I like the story behind the sign. Sad it is no more.
The story really complements the photo and I’m really glad you captured this. He needs to move the sign.
Visiting from the emily files. Thanks for hosting, I did join in and will be back (new camera, lots to learn). Happy New Year.
Joy
Oh my goodness, how cool is that! Sorry the old building is getting torn down, but at least he hasn’t gone out of business.
Hi Madge, just wanted to stop by to wish you a Happy New Year! :)
Great story and a well spotted photo opportunity Madge.
That’s a great story of the sign! Happy New Year!
