Riding the escalator up, a library patron approaches the landing for the Fifth Avenue entrance of the Seattle Public Library.
Observing the behavior of people utilizing escalators can be an interesting way to wile away a few minutes of your time. Some people step on and ride standing stock still, some hold on for dear life, some ‘walk’ up the steps, some talk, some don’t, some hesitate while getting on, and ‘leap’ getting off. This fellow is the ‘stock still’ variety. I’m a stock still and a hesitator, I don’t want to make a misstep getting on or off. What about you??

What an awesome and colorful escalator!
Cool shot, I like the perspective!
Excellent shot, Madge.
Thanks for hosting.
The escalator is so colorful, and what an interesting post on human behavior! I tend to hold on, walk up the steps, and talk all at the same time! Have a nice weekend, Madge! :-)
Greats colors and I really like the leading lines you have in this shot, Madge.
Seattle is definitely a city of vibrant color! xo
Hi! I stand still at the left side. Because it is a custom for east Japanese people.
Madge, another brilliant image from Seattle!!!! Happy Saturday to you!
Laurie
i hesitate getting on but step right off, stand stock still with one hand clutched on the railing, for sure this is a TOP Shot
I love seeing all the different subjects. People have such beautiful fall photos and in Florida, there is nothing to take pictures of but the orange grove (this week). Hope I can go to the beach soon. :)
Oh yea, my first camera was a Pentax K1000. I now have a Nikon and I don’t like it!!! I miss my Pentax. And I miss film.
what great lines!!!
I’m a mover on an escalator! Especially if I’m with someone…although I usually hang on to the railing so I can move! Love the shot especially with the yellow. Thanks for posting and hosting best shot…new follower here. Blessings, Nancy
Great perspective! I’m an escalator walker, they are too slow for me.
Right away the colors struck me. My old high school colors. :)
Then I noticed his stance. He is stock still but he looks like he has a purpose and I think he carries off that bag on his shoulder quite well.
Wonderful shot Madge!
Great shot! You are inspiring me to think outside “my box.” Actually, Weekly Top Shot has been so good for me. You are helping me think more about my photography in a fresh way and keeping snapping away. :D
Blessings!!
Nice shot! Love the colors. ((giggle)) We don’t have escalators in Sequim. That’s big city stuff.
Most escalators I’ve seen recently are “travellators” which have no steps, making entry and exit easy, even with shopping trolleys and prams.
This is such a crisp image, Madge! Great contrast of colors…wonderful capture of the isolated figure.
I like the vertical lines of the rails against the horizontal lines of the steps. And the yellow is nice! It can be fun to watch people use escalators….especially that first step!
Nice shot Madge!
This will sound funny to city folks, but I always loved riding those as a kid when we’d visit my g’ma in St Louis… we don’t have a single one here in small town SeMo! LoL! =)
Great composition – he looks like he is lost in thought, hope he remembers to leap at the top.
Great color! I like the way it’s glowing on his hat.
I very rarely ride an escalator anymore so I am definitely a hesitator! LOL!! What a neat shot of everyday life! :)
Great composition! Love the pattern and repetition.
As for me and escalators, if they are normal ones in shops i walk up but never down (in case i fall!). Yesterday I was on a very, very big one at a railway station…. i turned sideways and didn’t look down – and held on tightly. Everyone else came rushing down past me to catch the train which was waiting. I made it in time.
A great observation! I’m a cautious rider on the side of nervous…but I try not to let anyone know so don’t tell anyone…LOL
Great uses of lines in this shot. I’m always in a hurry, so I’m one of those annoying people scooting up the side trying to get around everyone else.
I stay still on the escalator and always get nervous when it comes time to step off! My husband can’t stand still so he always walks up them like stairs if no one is in front of us.
Madge! hi! I finally linked up with your fun blog. Thank you for hosting a grand event! really, 56 weeks, that is marvelous.
Awesome, excellent framing, some exquisite colors. Nice picture!
