Definition: cu·po·la (kyou’ puh luh), a dome, especially a small dome on a circular or polygonal base crowning a roof or turret. Here near the town of Snohomish, along Lake Crescent Road next to the Snoqualmie River, a rather ramshackle red barn sported an unusual cupola that was larger and different than any I’ve ever seen. Trees, underbrush and the lack of a safe pull-off prevented me from getting a better view to share with you. Doesn’t it just frost you sometimes that you can’t get the shot you really want? Private property, narrow roads, no pull-offs, traffic, barking dogs, trees, other buildings, people, too dark, too light, well I guess the list could go on and on of obstacles to getting ‘that’ shot! Sometimes you can work around those issues and sometimes, you’re just out of luck…

This is so pretty! My church (Orthodox Christian) has 5 cupolas and they are covered in copper. Love this type of architecture.
it’s a beauty!
How cool! I love this!
love it … perfect angle!
I think it’s a GREAT shot! :)
There are some pictures I want to take in Bisbee, AZ (an old mining town) but I’m having trouble figuring out a safe place to park…
I learned something new today. Nice shot too.
Hi Madge, I’m Anne from Life on the Funny Farm (http://annesfunnyfarm.blogspot.com), and I’m visiting from the Barn Hop.
What a beautiful shot. What a beautiful cupola!
Anyway, thanks for posting this. I hope you can pop by my blog sometime to say hi…
You did good! I hate seeing things that I’m unable to get a good shot of.
There is so much detail in this barn. And I have a terrible time getting photos of the barns here in the mountains! But I sure do love them!
Madge, this cupola is really unique. I think it’s a great shot. It is frustrating trying to get the perfect photo of something when obstacles are in the way. Sometimes I would like to get out of the car and walk to take the shot I want. Pamela
Nice shot even though its not what you really wanted. I think that’s the fun of photography—see what photos you can get despite the obstacles.
I grew up hearing the word “cupola” pronounced “cupalo” and still have trouble with not spelling it wrong.
I love it!
I like just these details Madge! That’s a big cupola and gives the shot it’s charm!
That really is a large cupola! I like the eyebrow windows on both the barn and cupola. Looks like the builder had a bit of fun with this one. I quite agree with the frustration of all the obstacles that can get in the way of getting the shot you want. Every barn should come with a viewing turnout–placed at the most photogenic view, natch.
wow, that is a huge cupola. never seen one so huge … very different & i rather like it. different is good. (:
Love the eyebrow windows. xo
I like this view! Great shot.
Very unique cupola. You got a great shot of it!
Beautiful. It would be so great if some of those old barns could be preserved especially those with the uniqueness such as this one.
Beautiful shot! Just the other day I looked up the definition of cupola. It must be a barn lover thing! :)
Fantastic shot, Madge… thank you so much for joining =)
Neat cupola! We saw lots of these cupolas on barns on a recent trip and pondered their purpose.
Thank you for commenting on my blog, Counting my Blessings!
My pet peeve about trying to get the right shot is Power Lines!! They are everywhere!
Terrific shot of the cupola. Very unique. Have a great week!
