Seattle’s Space Needle sports a new coat, of paint that is. Fifty years ago, Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair opened in the month of April. The Space Needle was then one of the highlights of the Fair and has since become the iconic symbol of the city. Normally, the roof of the Needle is painted a similar neutral creme color as the legs. But as part of the anniversary celebration, it was painted the original color from 1962 called ‘Galaxy Gold.’ At first the color change was quite jarring, but I’ve come to enjoy the bright pop of color on Seattle’s grey days. Here I caught a peek-a-boo shot of the top of the Needle from Pier 55 on the waterfront.
Did you watch the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics last night? I did. I really enjoyed all the creativity, the colors, the music and the bits of humor. Two that stand out in my mind were the spoof of Queen Elizabeth and ‘James Bond,’ parachuting into the stadium and ‘Mr. Bean’ playing with the London Symphony, that really cracked me up. Love Mr. Bean!
Thankfully, after the surgery on Thursday, my mouth is feeling better, still swollen but not nearly as painful today. So it’s back to painting the house… brush and roll, brush and roll…

Gorgeous shot, and I love that gold on the top! It’s quite fancy!
At first glance I thought the colour was lighting, as I’ve never seen the Needle in other than the cream, but I like it. Great shot!

I don’t think I’ve ever thanked you for hosting the weekly Top Shot. I appreciate it.
I haven’t been watching NWCN often enough, I guess. Surely they would have had a story in this beautiful new “coat”! It’s been so many years since I’ve seen the Space Needle….and then I even went to the top!
Great shot, Madge. Hope you are back to feeling 100% soon.
Thanks for hosting.
Marvelous!
Love your photo Madge, the lighting and colours are wonderful. Hope you make a speedy recovery and may the painting be a productive distraction while you heal.

I love the color…how wonderful to re-paint with the original color.
And speaking of painting…man, it take soooo long.
Glad you haven’t lost your energy for it.
Hope you keep feeling better and better.
Wonderful, your work today is very attractive with these beautiful lights at night and a nice place, greetings.
Wow! What a difference the new paint color makes. I like it. Glad you’re feeling chipper enough to paint your own place.
What a super color for it! Looks wonderful and Seattle is right to be proud of their needle.
