Where can you find a just man? At this small farm in the rural Thurston County town of Yelm, apparently you can. This farmstead is a bit cluttered and in need of some repair, but the name on the barn caught my attention on a rainy day drive to visit my sister in Littlerock, WA.
‘Just,’ a person guided by truth, justice, reason and fairness. Doesn’t that sound like the kind of man you’d want to know? I wonder how and why it came to be written on their barn. Were they treated as an unjust man and this is their defense? What do you think?

that is pretty interesting.
that is too funny!! ha. ha!! (:
I’d just like to find a man!
It makes you go Hmmmm….
I like how you used the fence in the foreground to frame the writing on the wall, so to speak.
Hmmmm. Looks a little cluttered, perhaps in need of a woman’s touch. Could it be “just-man” is just him living there with no woman??
I think it needs a woman’s touch and totally agree with Kay!
That’s cool.
Maybe it should have been “Just A Man Farm”. :-) I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean! Never seen anything like it.
If you ever find out the story, post it on a Barn Charm day!
I think it’s such a cool phrase to have painted anywhere, much less on a barn. So glad you came across it and got to take this photo to share with us, Madge.
Funny! Now he just needs to do a little more upkeep on the barn….
What a fascinating sign to have on a barn! Now I really want to know the rest of the story!
ha, that’s interesting! i wonder if someone will complain that it’s just a “man” farm and should be a “person” farm…you know, gotta be pc and all!
when i first read it, i thought sooooo JUST a man lives here? then I read it again and though hummm. it is interesting. but i am wondering why a JUST man would want it on the side of his barn. very interesting indeed.
now that’s funny ..
I’m sure the story behind the name is really interesting!
So odd – I’d be curious to know what brought about the name as well.
He’s one of the few…
If you ever learn the story, please share! :)
That’s funny! I’m with Kathy “I’d just like to find a man”. Let us know if you ever find out the rest of the story.
Hmm, makes you wonder! Is he so just that his farm was named after him?
LOVE IT & God bless him! Great find, Midge!
Thank you =)
Very interesting and a great find!
Maybe it means you’d be treated fairly there. Guess we’ll never know.
This is very interesting to me… lol it is our family’s last name. It was my husbands grandfather justman. It was how he made it for people to find his farm. He was well known in the community. He was an amazing man. He was a preacher and was born in the house. He and his wife Raised 6 kids there. It used to be a dairy farm. It was my husband great grandfather and grandfather who painted the sign by lantern light. Hope this helps answer some questions. ❤️
