A rainy day in Seattle is not unusual, even in summer. Here a man occupies a small dry spot against the Louis Vuitton store to make a call. Most people think it rains continually in Seattle, but actually we don’t even fall in the top ten cities for rainfall, we are 44th. What is striking about Seattle is that we while we average 158 days of measurable rain, we average 226 cloudy days and 82 partly cloudy days. That’s just 48 sunny days. When it does rain, it usually is a light, drizzly sort of rain that falls from low heavy slate grey skies. Locals deal with the rain by carrying umbrellas, wearing hats or coats with hoods. Myself, I’m a hood or hat wearer or I let the rain have its way with my hair, umbrellas are too cumbersome. What about you, do you use an umbrella?

Love all the grey and muted colors… and then the surprise pop of bright color on the right… beautiful shot, Madge!
Really fascinating, Madge. I think we’re the exact opposite here in Atlanta. :) Love that shot!
That does sound like a lot of gray days, but in Alabama, I would welcome more clouds during the 95 degree temps. You have more good photo op hours too. That is a great shot (as usual). Do you use your tripod most of the time, or do you just have that steady hand?
Drizzle helps my hair. I have a lot and curls are the thing.
Nice shot, Madge. Sheltered not only formt he rain, but looks as though he is sheltered from the economic crisis as well, judging by his surrounds and look…
Thanks for hosting!
we don’t get too much rain here, but i detest umbrellas. i detest hats. my hair is short – nothing a towel off can’t fix. :)
I like the lighted window contrasted with the overcast day.
I own several umbrellas from my working days — but now, I just let it rain! xoxo
Looks like he is standing on the only dry spot, fun capture! I agree – umbrellas are too cumbersome, but I thought it was a point of pride to not own an umbrella in Seattle :-).
so much going on in that shot. It is a good one.
WOW this is a superb Picture – In all – not too much that is disturbing the eyes when looking at it. At same time a great commercial? thihi.. And the man is completely dry – marvellous!!!
Kind regards
Mariane
Yes, I’m an umbrella-toting person even when I roam the streets taking photos in the rain.
I love this shot, Madge; reminds me of NYC’s side streets of Greenwich Village. Seattle looks like a very photogenic city.
Great street photo! All the clouds make for good rich colors but, I have to say, if I lived out there I would have one bad hair YEAR…LOL I’d just have to let the natural curl take over. Again, this is a great shot…love the composition (again) and love those popping oranges on the right.
We would kill for even just a sprinkle. Nice shot.
Cool shot! I didn’t know that about Seattle. I would have thought for sure you were in the top of the heap for rainfall. I’ve always associated Seattle with lots of rain.
I always have umbrella, but for some reasons never really use it when it right. That’s a cool shot!
Haha ~ great image! I know it well. Rain rain rain… yup… that’s what we have had too. But I see some sun forecasted for this week. Woot woot!
Happy Sunday!
xo Catherine
There used to be a time when people were getting shelter they all would be smoking cigarettes. That’s all changed… they have switched to cell phones.
I hate umbrellas the wind always blows them the wrong way. I would rather just wear a coat with a hood.
Thanks for hosting
I used an umbrella, frankly because in Louisiana it’s too hot for jackets and boots. Getting a little wet may cool us off, :)
a lovely upscale area .. and a very good street scene ..
Hi Madge, I hope you’re feeling much better now? We’re having lots of rain here too, I hear that it’s very wet there in Seattle all year. I’m with you, a hood or a hat :) Thank you for hosting, have a lovely week.
Classy capture, Madge. So very Seattle!
Excellent photo!
You may have a lot of rain, but he looks rather content to wait it out.
I always love seeing your pictures of downtown Seattle! :)
My umbrella lives in the backseat of my car, doesn’t do me much good there does it?!? ;-)
No umbrella for me, either. I’m a hat/hood person. I tried balancing a small umbrella while shooting.. didn’t much work. My Canon 7d is fairly waterproof, thank goodness, ’cause like me it does get wet.
PS.. I love our rain!

Nice Shot Madge.
I love this composition…
P.S. I do not use umbrellas, I prefer a hooded jacket … How else would I do to have free hands to take pictures?
