Curious creatures.. mules.
As a kid we had horses and donkeys, no mules. But I’ve often thought if I had the property and money I’d buy one or two. Mules are said to be highly intelligent and when well trained are loyal, patient, persevering, calm, sensible, tolerant and affectionate. Here in the very very small rural community of Hatton, WA I found a herd of mules and horses who were busy eating from a rack of hay. One mule (he looked to be older) had a heck of a time finding a place to squeeze into the feed where the others would tolerate him being there (fodder for another post).
Then their cowboy owner comes through the farmyard with a bucket and a lead, as he opens the gate a few of them come to greet him and see what he has. He chooses one, putting a lead around his neck and walks back toward the gate. The chosen mule seems to be saying ‘What’cha got and where we goin’?
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

I love mules.
I wouldn’t know a mule from a donkey, though I do know a horse when I see one! :)
(And happy B’day.)
What a great shot!
Awesome photo Madge! I can smell the country air from here, refreshing..
Pretty capture!
Very cute shot, Madge. Mules have the sweetest faces I think. Happy Easter and thank you for sharing at Your Sunday Best today.
Great shot!!
Are birthday wishes in order?? If so, happy birthday to you!
I met a woman in the eastern Sierras some years ago who worked with mules and was part of the Calgary Stampede with a team of mules. . .and she also did mule dressage. She raised a lot of eyebrows but held her own with the smart performance of her mule. She showed us pictures of herself – in the standard gear – and her mule – braided tail and all. It was quite an eye-opener and gave me a whole new respect for mules.
Wonderful shot!
The last time I have seen mules was almost twenty years ago…
They look like they’re moving quite fast, there’s got to be food involved here somewhere haha!
