Pausing in the process of eating lunch, a calf looks to see why I’ve stopped by. Over the last few days, I’ve seen a few cows, probably not nearly as many as on farms west of the mountains, or in other parts of eastern WA. Precious land here is wheat country not cow country. Cows are curious creatures and will follow you down a fence line to see what you’re up to and where you’re going. Here a calf stops eating a tasty mouthful of hay to consider my presence which briefly disrupts her otherwise normal daily routine.
My routine is not normal this week, except that I’ve been driving a lot every day which I do at home driving 100+ miles daily in my 40′ school transit style school bus. I’ve had the pleasure to spend several days in the Palouse region of southeastern Washington state, the premier wheat growing region in the Pacific Northwest. Today, I’m driving back across the state from Colfax, to home in Seattle. It’s a long drive and I’ll, of course, make it much longer because I stop again and again and oh, again to take just one more shot!
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

she is a bit of a messy eater, isn’t she!
I also take a long getting from one city to another on my road trips due to numerous photo ops!
The stopping for one more photo is why it took us 4 days to travel the Blue Ridge Parkway – just over 500 miles – just hated to pass up the opportunity for that last shot! The calf is so cute…they are intensely curious creatures! When we visit my aunt, her neighbor’s cows always come to the fence to check out the new car in the driveway!
You are such an adventurous lady, Madge! I love this photo. Country charm at it’s finest. :)
Nice portrait of the beasty. Looking forward to the photos from the return journey.
Lovely image of a thoughtful soul. Drive safely Madge!
Have a safe trip home, Madge. I am always looking for a picture to shoot on my way to and from the town job.
Great shot…love your perspective.
Wonderful shot Madge. I love watching our neighbors cattle eat :)
oh he’s too cute! safe travels home!!
Cow love! Great shot, as always!
and we love your shots. :) sweet cow!
Looks like that hay was just put out…and she was there for the tossing from the looks of her face.
Sweet calf! :)
Gosh, I just can’t imagine anyone having to stop again and again and again to take pictures! LOL!! Drive safely!
Aww, he’s a cutie!
Beautiful photo Madge. I think cows are so nosey. :) The field behind our house used to pasture cows years ago and when we went into the yard they’d all gather at the fence to see us. Pamela
Great pose and a hint of the fence. Nice!
Cows are so cute. I don’t see how people can eat them.
This is a fun post. I would have assumed you see a lot of cows except that you cleared that up for me, and I love learning about new places. Thanks!
I was just going to say–cows are so curious. Cracks me up the way they just gaze at you as if to say “Exactly what are you up to?” Safe travels and good photo ops along the way.
Love this shot, Madge! I think his eyes are saying who are you and what are you doing here?????
gosh, do i have something hanging out of my mouth? why do you stare? ha. ha!! so cute! (:
