A brilliant and glowing setting sun drops behind a boat coming across Elliott Bay at day’s end. In the wide open waters of Puget Sound, seeing boats, ships, tugs and barges is a common and daily sight. But to see a boat made miniature by comparing the Olympic Mountains to the west and the huge fire ball of the sun hanging momentarily at sunset over the horizon is a bit out of the ordinary and in this case quite spectacular!
The Associated Press has released a story that the largest solar flare in five years erupted yesterday and will reach earth about midnight tonight and could have major impacts on the power grid, gps and could prohibit air plane flights over the north and south poles. But on the up side, there could be significant and beautiful auroras visible, even in Seattle we may see it on the horizon to the north according to the University of Alaska, Geophysical Institute.

Thanks Madge. The sun is so brilliant in your photo that I could feel the heat radiating from it. It helped me to remove the winter blahs.
So glad it’s shaking off the blues!
Beautiful. Sunses are all the more stunning over water.
Its 10/10 cloud and raining here in Leeds right now, so this is especially welcome. Beautiful scene.
Beautiful. Though, the sun does look disproportionately large. Not that a large sun would be a bad thing!
Breathtakingly beautiful…so peaceful, colourful, and perfectly wonderful.
This is just gorgeous!
You captured the pinkness that is so fleeting……… and that sun fading behind the mountains situates the photo on the west coast……….. stunning.
(P.S. it takes your page so long to load on my computer that at first I thought your page was down. Love your photos, thought. Now that I know, well worth the wait. I just go brew another K cup of coffee!).
So sorry the page takes a long time to load for you… it loads fast for me, but not so much on my older desktop… so glad you’ve hung in there with me… did you pour me a cup while you were at it?? I take cream in mine…lol!
