‘Wonder Bread Helps Build Strong Bodies 8 Ways…’
Wonder Bread, that soft, white sandwich bread that could be found in many kids’ lunch boxes for years, has been replaced by healthier choices for most these days. When I was a kid I loved Wonder Bread, the package always stayed the same too, white with those classic red letters and red, blue and yellow ‘bubbles.’ Six years ago the Seattle facility that produced Wonder Bread was razed and replaced with an apartment building, but thankfully the owner’s had a sense of nostalgia and installed the old neon sign on top of the new building. Perhaps they liked Wonder Bread too, after all it is still soft, delicious and nutritious after 90 years! I could use some wonder working power .. getting ready for work was a bit slow this morning. Please pass the bread!
i grew up on wonder bread! love that they kept the sign!
I’m glad they did too… keeps a bit of the ‘old’ alive!
beautiful shot!! LOVE all the starry looking lights…AND the neon!!
pass the Pnut butter!!
Thanks, Laura! ;-)
glad they saved it!
Me too, TexWisGirl!
My Dad being a European-trained baker he pretty much disparaged Wonder Bread and it’s ilk, though they did make a great sign.
I love a good loaf of bread… (frankly I wouldn’t eat Wonder Bread these days) give me a loaf with a good crunchy, chewy crust and a tender crumb any day! ;-)
Beautiful night shot, Magde.
Thanks, Karl…
Nice shot! I shudder to remember this: A real treat was Wonder Bread with a slather of butter sprinkled with sugar. Don’t care for that kind of bread anymore.
Ah well, we were kids then right?? ;-)
There are just some sandwiches that don’t taste the same unless they’re on white bread: chicken salad, BLT (on toast), grilled cheese, and a fried egg sand.
I think it’s really cool that an apartment building has that wonderful sign. What a great way to describe where you live to people who are asking for directions.
That’s true Kathy… except for those, though, give me a good slice of bread any day!
I always liked Wonder Bread….PS I will try to join your Top Shot next week
Thanks, Kim… I hope you will come and join!
When it first came out it was the whitest and softest bread ever! I think it still is. I just love that sign. I means something ya know?
I agree, Michaele! :-)
I loved Wonder Bread as a kid! I wouldn’t eat anything else.
I was there too, Randy…
I remember that bread. Glad they kept the sign around. There used to be a Mrs Bairds bread plant in Dallas, it always smelled so good when driving past. It has been razed also.
Too bad so much of our food is centralized… if we had a natural disaster… well, it would be a disaster for many reasons, but local food production would be one, don’t you think?
Sounds like it was quite a product. Relieved that the sign was kept and pleased to see it all aglow too- great photo Madge!

Very cool sign. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to bread, but one thing I know….it all smells heavenly when it’s being baked. I think it’s a shame we can’t survive on bread and butter:-)
That is so cool!!!
Great name for a bread! :-)
Love the sign! Wonder Bread was a hit in these parts too : )
As a kid I was often given a dollar and sent to the store for a loaf of bread and a carton of milk. (no plastic bottles then and enough change to buy some candy!) The milk was always heavy to lug home but the smell of that bread as I walked up the hill with my nose in the paper grocery bag was heavenly! Later, as a young man, I went to Seattle Community College for a short time. Being just up the street from this bakery / bread factory, that same smell would waft into the classroom and drive me nuts! It usually meant a quick stop at their outlet store on my way home!
I would love to get a copy of this photo. How can I?
