Fog adds an air of mystery and other worldliness to this predawn view of the Space Needle filtered through naked tree branches and the Monorail elevated line. This iconic symbol of Seattle is decorated for the holiday season annually each Thanksgiving and remains displayed until the fireworks celebration on New Years Eve at 23:30. The other morning though, the fog rolled in and out and around downtown as I sought to capture some of the prominent seasonal displays. At first I was disappointed that the fog was obscuring the Needle, but then it lifted slightly and the effect was so pleasing I couldn’t have been happier with the results. Today is my last work day until we return on January 4, you’ve got to love Christmas Break. I’m never sure who is more excited and looking forward to the time off, the teachers, staff and bus drivers or the kids… I won’t leave you with any doubt about my state of mind, yippee!! Yup, that fits the descriptive bill well! ;-)
An amazing photo, Madge. You’ve outdone your self with this one.
Wishing you a relaxing break and Happy Holidays, my friend. :)
Thanks, Nancy…
Good for you Madge. Happy vacation and Merry Christmas! I know you will enjoy every minute! Margie
I am, yes.. I am!
truly truly magnificent shot. and you are right, it is mysterious and beautiful. like a ghost space needle.
That was the theme of the 1962 World Fair held here in Seattle, ‘Century 21.’ Space and all that…
Oh, Madge, I would have been pleased with it too! It’s fabulous, perhaps one of the best pictures I’ve ever seen of the Needle. Surely you can find some contest you could enter it in. It would be a winner, that’s for sure. With your holiday upon you, I’m looking forward to more great photos!
Thank you, Kathy… you’ve very kind!
that’s a beautiful shot. :)
Thanks… ;-)
Iconic symbol of Seattle for sure! Whenever I see an overview picture of Seattle I always look for Needle, and whenever I’ve been to Seattle I’ve always gone to the Seattle Center.
I haven’t actually wandered around the center much since taking my kids to the Science Center a lot when we home schooled years ago. But just like you, when I get up to Vancouver, I try to hit Stanley Park… love that!
Now that is a great shot!
Thanks, Sharon!
Oh lucky you for that nice long break. Have fun and get lost more pics. I would love to see the space needle some day.
Yes… I’m SO thankful for the breaks I get as a bus driver…
Fantastic foggy night shot! Love how you composed it.
Thank you! :-)
I love, love this picture. I love the combination of the fog and the space needle with the tree in front. Just love it!
Thanks, Susan… it is a bit unusual!
The space Needle is quite attractive at night! I like this photo very much. You shot it from a great angle.
Thanks!
Beautiful shot!! Very nicely done!
Enjoy your break. I’m sure you’ve more than earned the time off!
Thanks Kay! I’m already enjoying it!
This photo is gorgeous with mystery….Enjoy your time off
Thanks! I am…
Fog has been the everyday norm, unti
l today here on most of the east side of the mountins. I drove to higher elevation yesterday and saw the sun. It cleared up this morning.
We’ve been in and out of the fog for days… just a winter thing in the NW… but when the sun shines it is brilliant and enjoyed so much!
Beautiful! Hope you have a really nice Christmas!
Thanks so much!
That is a very fun photo – good job!
xo Catherine
Thank you!
What a dreamy shot!
Thanks, Randy…
That is one great shot!
Thank you, Peter!
Wonderful photo! And enjoy your R&R. I work for a large pharm. co. and this is the second year we are totally closing from Christmas to the New Year (courtesy to this wonderful economy). Granted we use personal vacation time for this but this is normally a vacation week for me. Can’t wait! Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Helene… you enjoy too!
A very impressive photograph, Madge. I love fog and mist and even rain…one can get some great photos in those circumstances, as you did here.
Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year to you and yours!
Thank you Lowell… you’re right, imperfect conditions are give perfect shots!
It does look a little mysterious at this angle.
Thanks… I’ve visited your blog, but there’s no way to comment… too bad… wish there was!
Such a great shot Madge, looks like something out of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’, alien spaceship, or is that me jsut having an overactive imagination. Wonderfully mysterious composition.
Oh… I remember that show and the music too! Thank you!!!
This is a gorgeous photo!
Love the framing.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks Deb… it’s hard to take a bad shot of the Space Needle! Merry Christmas to you too!
Fabulous image Madge and best wishes for a relaxing and joyous holiday season and a wonderful 2012.
