Deep Creek School - Rural Spokane County

Now a private residence, this beautiful old one room school house is located about twenty miles west of Spokane on Highway 2 in the small, rural, unincorporated community of Deep Creek. I have been searching for a long time to find historical information about this school (and an abandoned church in Deep Creek as well) but unfortunately I’ve never be able to find any facts. But lack of data doesn’t diminish the beauty of the place.

    1. I don’t know if this is on the National Register of Historic Places, but I don’t think so… I often search those records for places to go photograph. It should be though, don’t you think?

  1. I am with Celeste, this is a beautiful building, be an interesting place to live too. Here in Yorkshire, England over the years as small rural schools have shut many of them have been turned into quite splendid homes.

That is a great photo you took of the old schoolhouse. If my info is correct the schoolhouse was built in 1905 to replace a one room wood structure that once stood across the highway. I belive the Church is of 1929 vintage and sadly the owner has no interest in preserving it. Deep Creek Falls (now just Deep Creek) was a town from 1883 or so till 1939 (I believe).

Hello, my name is gabriel and I grew up in this house. My parents bought it maybe thirty years ago and fixed it up. Its insane that you guys are talking about it and very neat at the same time. Unfortunitly I am at college and are not currently living there but I plan on moving back sometime because I love where I grew up. Thank you

    1. Wow… how special it is that you would come across my post! I talk about these kind of places because I’ve been photographing one/two room school houses across the northwest for a long time. Somehow they epitomize a simpler way of life…
