Mount Rainier in Eastern Washington Sunset Glows in Shades of Pink!This view of Mount Rainier is considered by those of us from west of the Cascade Mountains to be the back side of the mountain. Most photographs seen of Mount Rainier are taken from the various and many views from around Western Washington state, but on a trip home from Spokane, the sunset was spectacular and this pink vision of Rainier could not be skipped. I pulled off the freeway at the exit near Ritzville onto a dirt road, stood in the edge of a fallow field and shot this lovely view.
Yesterday, 10-18-11, I was driving back to Seattle from Idaho and saw Mt. Rainier after I left Ritzville. I couldn’t believe that I could actually see it this far east. So I pulled over at the Schrag Rest Area and also took a Mt. Rainier pic at sunset. I had not seen Rainier over this far before. I am sure it was because there was not a lot of haze in the air! I found your site when I Googled Mt. Rainer and Ritzville.
Thanks, Marshall. I’m glad you found my site. I’ve been blessed with views of the east side of Rainier a number of times, but not always, sometimes it is obscured by clouds. It is a gorgeous view, hard to resist the photographic opportunity, isn’t it? ;-)
Driving home from a weekend in Montana and I saw the mountain.. had never noticed it before and googled it to find your blog… thank you for sharing your beautiful photo.

I grew up in Spokane, Lamont and Ritzville. I believe the only place I would always see Mt. Rainier is from the rest stop at Rye Grass, up the hill from Vantage. Great shot! The farms in the photo I believe would be the Baumans’
I’m sure I’ve seen Rainier from this point before, but was always in a hurry to get home and just looked, watched but kept on driving. This day, though, it was just to spectacular to pass up. The exit was west of Ritzville just a little ways, but I couldn’t begin to tell you just where, I’m not that familiar with the area! Thanks for commenting and giving information about the farms that I never would have known otherwise!
