Yeah, It’s What I Do… A Lot… On a recent outing to Victor Falls or Fennel Creek Falls (as it is also known) my daughter photographed the photographer, doing what I like best, seeing what I can capture with my Pentax K7 and a variety of lenses. The plateau between the White and Puyallup Rivers and their respective valleys is drained in part by Fennel Creek which is mostly fed by rainwater runoff into swamps and a few lakes. The creek makes a spectacular cascade over the sedimentary rocks just a few feet off Rhodes Lake Road. It is an easy, mostly level walk, but if you go, take caution! The cliffs surrounding the falls are completely open and the spongy forest floor gives precarious footing as you approach the edge. Victor Falls is a rarity. Rare, indeed, is the waterfall on Fennel Creek, it has a drop of over 100 feet and the top of the falls is just 370 feet above sea level, making it the tallest waterfall closest to sea level in the Puget Sound area. This short five minute walk away from the road with the awesome view of the waterfall makes the close proximity of suburban living fade quickly away.
