Neighborhood cafes… places where locals gather to eat and talk.
: : :
Here,
at Beth’s Cafe,
along Aurora Avenue North
in the Greenlake neighborhood of north Seattle,
one can eat a little or a lot.
: : :
It has long been a late night destination greasy spoon,
with long wait times after the bars close at 2 am.
Beth’s serves up steaming hot plates of food,
the most requested though,
are their omelettes, hashbrowns, toast and
plenty of hot coffee.
: : :
I haven’t eaten at Beth’s in about 40 years,
but on the odd occasion while driving by at the right time of night,
one can still see lines of hungry patrons
waiting for one of the seats
inside.
: : :
Here,
shortly before dawn,
only a lone diner can been seen hunkered
down over their plate.

A terrific night shot! What else would one want to eat after a late night out, breakfast of course!
Here I thought I was the only one awake at that hour….but I know that “Beth” is cooking, someone is having hash browns, and YOU are driving by!!!
I love old cafes like that! It’s so nice to know that not everyone has their breakfast at McDonalds.
I really like the sense of motion in the foreground.
looks like a fun little spot for a late night bite. What are you doing out so late? Or was it super early?
I’m glad there are still places like Beth’d Cafe which has a wide menu and has an excellent breakfast. It also doesn’t sound like a chain restaurant. I like that.
Love a good old fashioned diner/cafe. Great shot and reminder to look for these more often.
It looks like a cozy place. Beautiful shot.
What a great shot – I love the look of diners in the dark – reminds me of traveling and the warmth and good smells when you enter the diner, tired and ready for some home cooking.
Sometimes those tucked away – non-franchised – restaurants have the best food! Love your shots below. Those carrots look wonderful. Until garden season, good carrots are hard to come by in Saskatchewan. Go figer.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend Madge!

Love the old-fashioned diners.
Hi Madge,
The colors and the light is just amazing in your photo – giving the late night-feeling over it!
We have also a local cafe at the corner – serving salats and sandwiches from 10 am to 10 pm :)
Looks like a welcoming place where a wandering soul could grab a great cup of coffee and breakfast. xox
