Defy gravity?? Well, maybe… Located on North Crosby Road about 1.5 miles north of where North Crosby Road turns north at North McClure Road. A local legend holds that you turn your vehicle south bound (facing the old hop barn on the right), with your front bumper on the ‘start’ line painted on the road, put your car in neutral and you will coast up hill.
Hold up, not so fast! Yes, the road looks level from the ‘start’ line to the slight uphill grade adjacent to barn. We tried it, first just the old fashioned way, putting the vehicle in neutral at the start line, picked up a little speed and did coast up a small rise in the road adjacent to the old hop barn on the right. The second time we watched our GPS, and it is simply that there is the slightest downhill grade from start line and you pick up enough speed to coast uphill a short way. Regardless, it was fun!

ha, that’s pretty neat! love your perspective on the barn theme too!
Great shot….that is interesting …I know I would try it too!
too fun!
Most of these urban legends are fun, but don’t have much to do with the facts!
My husband is from Yakima….will have to ask him about it! :)
That is such a lonely looking scene!
Whoa! Check out the stack on that one! What a looker she is! LoL!
I’ve heard about things like that… so neat that you tried it & now you know it’s kinda true! heheheee
Thanks so much for joining this week’s Barn Charm =)
The lead-in with the telephone wires is perfect!
That GPS is taking all the fun out of these ‘gravity’ hills (we have a few ‘magnetic’ hills like that)
wow, i’m in love. such a great photo. lovely!! oh, my hubby loves locations like this … we have found several of them around VA that we have had to make a stop at just for him. great. thank you for sharing. (:
We have one of those so called hills in my home town. It was a neat thing to do when I was a teenager!
How fun!
Oh I just love that you went and tried it. Nice shot too. I like the feel of the weather in the photo.
I would love to walk along a road like that.
What fun I think I will try it. I am glad you checked it out. MB
Fun! Local legends always add interest to a scene.
Either way-it looks like a road I’d love to drive on : )
Interesting legend. I love the barn. It’s a more unique shape than what I’m used to seeing.
