Foggy Fir Tree - Vashon Island WA

Fog·gy : ˈfôgē : [adjective]: a thick cloud of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere at or near the earth’s surface that obscures or restricts visibility.

:  :  :

is a typical occurrence around western Washington in the cold,

wet winter months.

In fact is is an almost a daily occurrence if it isn’t raining,

which it does a lot too.

Then we have those odd days when we have

some bright sunshine.

:  :  :

Most people think it rains here all the time.

In fact, we average about 38 inches of rain annually.

Out of the top 100 US cities with the most rainfall, Seattle falls at #44,

the city with the highest rainfall is Mobile, AL.

:  :  :

I think the reason people believe it rains here all the time

is because when it does rain it takes many hours of rainfall to accumulate much in the gauge.

It can typically rain here for days on end and only receive a an inch or two total.

Our rain is generally light, drizzle mostly.

Most Northwesterners do not bother carrying umbrellas,

they are a nuisance for our type of rain,

but if you watched the movie ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ or ‘Fraiser’ the tv series,

you’d think we all have one permanently attached

to our right hand!

:  :  :

on one of those foggy winter days,

a Douglas Fire tree

clings to the last bit of earth

before the top soil gives way to the marshy area

and finally

some sand and pebbles

at KVI Beach
