Art glass, do you love it?
: : :
I must confess,
I do.
I have had a fascination with nicknacks
and art glass all my life.
: : :
I believe I know the genesis of this life-long love.
As a little girl,
our closest neighbors were an elderly couple we called ‘Jack and Mrs. Smith.’
Jack worked with my dad for King County
and Mrs. Smith was a retired school teacher.
: : :
When we would walk across our pasture to visit at their house,
my mom would sit in the kitchen chatting
and drinking coffee.
I would wander quietly in the living room,
being careful to follow Mrs. Smith’s curt instruction,
‘Don’t touch anything!’
: : :
The east wall of the room was a long bank of tall windows
and french doors.
In other words,
there was an abundance of light.
Mrs. Smith was also a lover of art glass,
she had many nicknacks and wonderful pieces of colorful clear glass.
One item in particular
has remained a crisp memory my whole life,
that of a large clear glass bowl filled with colorful paper weights and glass balls.
: : :
These days,
I have quite a few pieces of art glass,
in a rainbow of colors,
I love them all,
not just pink,
or green
or blue.

Here,
on a recent outing with my daughter,
we stopped by an antique mall in our local town of Burien.
I couldn’t resist taking a couple shots of the light bouncing through this beautiful glass.

Today,
is ‘Tuesday Muse,’
over at my friend Nancy’s place, ‘A Rural Journal.’
: : :
I’m sorry,
I didn’t get by to visit your posts for Weekly Top Shot this past weekend,
a ministry conference kept me very busy.
I hope to see you tomorrow for
‘Rurality Blog Hop #38.

Oh I just love antiquing…these are just beauties.
Your art glass shot looks great. I was a bowl that my mother owned. It is safely stored where I can see it in a bookcase.
It’s a fine life-long interest.
These are beautiful pieces and photographed so artfully. My favorite is cracked glass or mosaic glass pieces. :)
I love the look and texture of art glass but the older I get the less inclined I am to add it to the whole what-not collection I have – just something else to be washed or dusted. Very pretty though!
If I didn’t love it before, your photo would be enough to attract me to it. It’s really beautiful. But I’m at the same stage as Nicki when it comes to collecting things.
I have a few “art glass” plates that my mom gave me that date to the 1950’s. I think your green bowl here is divine (my mom would love it for sure as green is her favorite color).
Those colors are stunning! I always love looking at art glass but I don’t have any pieces (yet)! ;)
Madge,
Art glass is pretty. My Great Grandma had some glass art candy dishes. I am glad you shared your memories of Jack and Mrs. Smith with us. There are so many little things that remind us of people, life experiences and places we have visited.
Hope you had a great time at the conference.
You captured the details perfectly.
There’s just something about glass…and colored glass, especially! So pretty!
Simply beautiful color and design Madge — I love these pieces, but have not collected them. Another addiction I do not need. Lol.
I love the light in this image. Absolutely gorgeous!
